I haven't been through it but have experienced it through work. I am sure it can only be varied/lifted by a magistrate though. I have generally only seen it being used by mums who have feared that Dad would abscond with the children during contact time or one parent being worried that the other will make choices on where to live/ what schools the child should attend and I have never experienced one being lifted so to speak. They have been super ceded by a contact order though but again that was in front of a judge x
