Private scan for second opinion

Right this is a long post so please bear with me....
I went for an early scan as I'm 42 and have had 3 previous MC I was 4+4 from conception date and nothing could be seen on scan (too early?) I had hcg done and although they are going up they are not going up by 66% the hospital wanted me to go in to discuss methatextrate but I asked for another scan before I'd decide to have it I was then 5+3 the scan showed a collection of cells but she couldn't say if it was a pregnancy or not! Now the hospital keep ringing me to go in and discuss having inj or laparoscopy I've told them I have no pain or bleeding so want time to make my mind up! They are frightening me by saying if my tube ruptures I'll get very poorly very quickly! They can't even tell me if it's in my tube! I was wondering if I was to book a private scan just to make sure as the same woman has done both my scans and I'm just worried she's missing something or it's too early, any advice anyone? Xx

Sorry you are having a traumatic time. I would def have another scan and second opinion, are they still doing bloods for you? They really should be every couple of days for you until this is resolved. Our EPU won't scan until 6 weeks as they say they can't see well enough. The place that does private scans near me also starts at 6 weeks.

Could you not ask the early assessment clinic to rescan though with a different sonographer and ask them to scan the tubes to rule out an ectopic pregnancy and then make your decision from there?

I would ask for this sooner rather than later as I understand their concerns. I had a ruptured ectopic two years ago where the symptoms were a very sudden onset, I took myself into A&E, was in surgery within the hour and nearly died.

Thanks Snowbee they did my last bloods on mon and they'd gone up from 1500 to 2100 I just feel they a pressuring me to make a decision they won't scan me again I don't think all my friends have said while I'm fit and we'll sit it out but I'm terrified now about this ruptured tube xx

Hi Sarah the sonographer said you can't see the tubes on the scan I don't know what to do I obviously don't want to put my life at risk I have a 10yr old to think about. Xx

When I had my 6 week scan due to my previous ectopic, I also had a vaginal ultrasound scan. Although we found a heartbeat in the correct place, she also checked my remaining tube and embryo to rule out another twin pregnancy.

I do believe that it can be difficult to see but I'm pretty sure that vaginal scans are one of the investigating factors when looking for ectopics.

I think Id go for a second opinion.. they havent given you a diagnosis but are asking you to make up your mind what procedure you want? Sounds iffy to me.. Also, I just had a v early trans vaginal scan to confirm mc and or ectopic - they checked both tubes and both ovaries this way and confirmed it wasnt ectopic - not sure how they cant do that for you?

Fx, Id perhaps ask GP to a referral to another mat unit or something ...

I think 5wks is very early to rule as ectopic or otherwise so don't understand why they won't rescan after 6wks. If they won't rescan I would get a private scan for reassurance for just after 6wks xx

Thanks everyone i just feel very rushed they said "well this has been going on a while now" i said "i only found out i was pregnant just over 2 weeks ago" i the trans vaginal scan but she said you can see the ovaries but not the tubes im so confused if i had the laparoscopy and it wasnt in a tube would that terminate the pregnancy? How far along where you sarah when you had your eptopic? Xx

If you have a trans vaginal scan the sonographer can see if its an in uterine pregnancy , the collection of cells would br in the uterus surely ? ... Mine at 6 weeks showed the fetus in my uterus ,

Please ask for a second opinion to be sure of anything , its so early on to be rushing you into any procedure without a positive diagnosis ? Seems strange to me

Mine was a private scan and trans vaginal ... 4 weeks is so very early to see anything , surely the lady could identify the place where she saw this collection of cells? Xx

I'm completely confused Birdo they hardly speak to you in scan room and she just said I can see a collection of cells it could be the start of something? And then they are talking about me having methatex! I'd never live with myself! They just can't tell me 100% what's going on! I'm just waiting for doctor to ring me now xx

They just rang they want me to go in tonight to have more blood taken �� and I'll get results in morning xx

Doesnt sound right to me. Either they have good reason to know its an ectopic and they havent explained it well enough or they dont know and are rushing you into treatment as a precaution. Tubal rupture isnt to be taken lightly but personally I'd want more than they are giving you to consider treatment.

I have done private scans for a second oppinion in pregnancy (totally different issues and much further along than you) and found them quite different. Much less rushed.

Thanks BunnyN I'm surprised they're doing another blood test to be honest but I've decided I'm not having the inj either way as I want to actually know where the baby is and having that won't tell me! I know after this blood test I'm going to have to do something but I'm still only 5+6 tomorrow and that's if I ovulated on right date and not late what could you expect to see on a scan at that gestation? Xx

If they refuse to scan you refuse the meds. It's way to early to say those cells won't develop. If you can afford a private scan I would have one after 6 weeks to confirm. My bloods didn't rise more than 50% and they told me it's not a viable pregnancy. And he is now 13 months. But just in case I you have any pain or feel at all unwell or weird then go straight to hospital. Fx for you xxx

Thank you lilmisshopeful the consultant just rang to say my bloods from last night have gone up again but not as they should and that they'd like to rescan me this morning and if they don't see anything they'll take me for a laparoscopy to see if it's in a tube. Xx

Hi guys guess what they found a sac yolk and even a heartbeat!! The consultant scanned me nothing the lead sonnographer scanned me and found my babba 6 weeks! Which is what i am tomorrow!! Im in shock bit very happy xxx
