Just a quick question.. Will most landlords let you redecorate?

The landlord for the flat we were in up until March wouldn't let us do anything! Just wondering if most do as we've been thinking about private renting again.. would love to be able to buy somwhere but there's no chance we will afford 15-20% deposit for a mortgage anytime soon :(

Our landlord is fab doesn't mind us doing anything to ours as long as it's tasteful.

The best thing to do is to double check when you view properties. I can't see most having a problem as long as it's done to a good standard and not slap dash lol

Our landlord will let us do anything to the house. Considering that when DH moved in prior to us getting married the whole house needed decorated, had no flooring in hall or living room and worse of all there was still food in the fridge from the previous December - it was July was J moved in!!! All in all anything we do to house can only improve it :-)

That's great that all yours are like that, our last landlord was so awkward didn't want us touching a thing!

Hopefully be able to find somewhere that will let us re-decorate then, sounds like most are ok with it :) I just assumed that alot of them wouldn't let you cause ours didn't

Most contracts have something along the lines of 'allowing reasonable alteration'. our place is lovely if not personal lol (lots of cream) but Landlady wants to redecorate soon anyway, she's already done us new leather sofas!

I've found that private landlords are better for this, the flat we rented out the paper with no agency was great as we could talk straight to the landlord and do pretty much what we wanted

We've found somewhere and asked about re-decorating etc and the landlord said it's fine :) last time we rented through portfolio and it was really difficult to ever get a hold of the landlord!

xx

Normally it says on the lease. I would be tempted not to spend too much money on it though, even with long term letts the landlord can still sell up, or fall behind on mortgage payments (this happened to us 1 week before my last child was due)

I may wait till I'm pregnant before I tell her it might not be worth redecorating with a LO on the way..... ;)
