my boyfriend has private healthcare medical insurance through work. i'm not covered by it as we're not married, but (obviously its his baby!) could we get private hosp. appointments and scans and things through it?
i'v read his booklet but it doesnt explain, he cant ask the girls at work coz they dont get it as they not managers, the only female manager hasnt had a baby so she wont really know. can anyone help?

I'd ring them up or get your bf to ask his HR department,

I would reckon it is very unlikely as my private medical healthcare with BUPA specifically excludes pregnancy as pregnancy is not an illness. There were certain pregnancy complications which I think were covered but I can't remember the detail. However all the routine stuff was definitely not covered and that was on my policy (not OH's).

My sisters husband has private healthcare and when she was pregnant all pregnancy related scans & procedures including c-sections were not included.

But as she has very sever SPD and needed a c-section she had the section at the main hospital and was then moved to the private wing for after surgery care she spent a week in the private hospital being looked after with her baby and they did everything for her and she loved it.

I doubt you would be covered by your OH's policy unless you are named on it.

Why don't you ask if he can get you added. They should not discriminate against partners by saying it only applies to "married" couples. I have got my OH on my private medical cover and we aren't married.

With my first I was covered by PPP. I was in hospital 6 weeks with pre-eclampsia and ended up with a c section. They paid me £30 a night as I was with NHS but could have used private. (A nice "bonus" when I got out!) They don't cover routine pregnancy procedures but generally cover the complications.

It's worth asking about spouse coverage. My policy only went up a small amount when I added OH.
