.......after having bloods and usrine tests done yesterday that davids got Diabetes and Im devastated!

I know theres a lot worse he could have and im greatfull for that but both my late dad and my brother has/have diabetes and Ive seen what is does to people! Its a horrible illness!

We have to go see the nurse tomorrow for more bloods etc and then see the diabetic dr at 4 to see what plan of action they intend on taking and hoping and praying they have caught it in time to be managed with diet or at worse medication but not insulin I hope! However his tests were 13.....should be between 4 and 7 so possibly not looking too grand on the managed by diet front!!!!

Also from a slightly selfish point of view Im now concerned about us TTC....what the implications are etc as last week when we saw DR and mentioned TTC she advised us that coz david is overweight that will affect the health of his sperm and therefore result in me not being able to stay pregnant which is so far whats happend!
Arghhhhhh man why is life so shit at times!!

Ok rant over onwards and upwards!

On a positive note Im about to clear the coupboards and fridge of everything unhealthy and take it down to our local soup kitchen and go shopping for healthy stuff!!

If its not in the house we wont eat it and we could both loose some weight as Im very overweight too so will lbe adding a weightloss ticker too soon! !!

Aww sorry on your news hun, but at least you know now and he can start medicating it, better for him. Good luck on your weight loss and healthy eating, I'm behind you alll the way.

I'm so sorry to hear

Wilma, My OH has suffered from type 1 diabetes (insulin controlled) for 12 years (he's 22).. And at first I thought it was a terrible thing to have.. But it is so easy to handle nowadays, the blood tester he carries with him is about the size of a purse, he takes it everywhere with him and it's a matter of minutes to test.. The insulin pens are so hi-tech nowadays it looks like a marker! He injects himself several times a day and I have had to learn the ins and outs of everything because there's a possibility Odhrán will contract it because OH is a carrier.. I will keep everything crossed that everything comes back well for your OH  and hopefully it can be controlled by diet, me and OH never had problems TTC.. We fell pregnant on the first month of trying.. If you ever have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.. I will ask OH if I can't answer the questions for you  And good luck on the healthy eating.. Me, Alice (Me, My Girls and I), Jayne (Princess81), And Annette (Toonlass) currently have threads going in the weightloss section and are always helping and encouraging eachother so you should come and join us xxxxx

Thanks wolfy.... :) yeah better now we know and hopefully it is just diet managed...keeping them all crossed!! And thanks for the support I think were going to need it the next few days! lol We love food!! lol xxx

Thanks FM2B.....thats really kind of you and Im sure I will be bending you lugs a lot! And great about the weightloss thread too i will be joining it soon! Im going to see my Dr asap too and get on some sort of programme and this has scared us both a lot! Although I had lived with it through my dad and brother (12 when he was diagnosed too and is now 43) and ada ha it for 20 years before passing away its been a while so Im a bit rusty!

Arggghhh glad to hear you didnt have probe getting pregnant tho thats the first thing we thoguht of...will we have to made a decision to stop TCCf for the momen but I think not...will talk to Dr tomorrow and ask then too!

Thanks ladies xxx

So sorry to hear about David hun, I know what you mean about the diabetes and what it does to people. It's been a very common occurance in my family. My godfather got diagnosed with it a while back and it is now under control with diet etc. They put him on a course to make him understand it and be able to control it, he learnt some very interesting facts.

Good idea about the fridge hun, it's true if its not in the house you wont eat it. Good luck with your weightloss sweetie, we're all behind you

Aw honey x sorry to hear this but at least now you know and can start managing it x x great idea about the cupboards and fridge! I am the same with the 'if it's not in the house we won't eat it' frame of mind-hence why we never have crisps, biscuits, chocolate or microwave food/ready meals in x x big hugs and definatly behind you both-no more scoffing cakes you've made! Good luck x x

Sorry to hear that hun :( But at least your on the right path to making things better. xx

Sorry to hear about the diagnosis, but now it's known the treatment can start and things can only improve!! My Dad has type 1 diabetes, he was diagnosed when he was 5, and will be 60 next month. He and my mum conceived myself and my sister with no problem whatsoever and as far as I know (there are some questions you just don't ask your parents hahaha!) things are still OK on that front!

My Dad controls his diabetes with insulin, he injects before he eats but has to monitor his diet very closely as well. To be honest, my Dad is one of the healthiest nearly-60-year-old's that I've known as he doesn't eat any junk food and exercises regularly so in a perverse sort of way, having to monitor himself so closely means he is doing a lot better health-wise than lots of other people his age!

Diabetes care has moved on SO much in the last few years, I remember my Dad really being restricted to what he could and couldn't eat / do when I was a kid but that's all so different now. He has just as much freedom to do as he wishes as anyone else and is very thankful for the progressions and achievements that the medical world has made in the last few years.

I'm sure that once David and yourself have got over the initial shock and have seen all of the specialists that you will feel a lot more positive and realise that this isn't as devastating as it once was. Obviously nobody wants to be diabetic, but it really is a good thing that it's been recognised, and a plan can now be made.

Best of luck to you both x

Thanks everyone....I cried when he told me just coz I think in life as it is we have enough going on with my health but yeah now Ive calmed down a bit and read all your so supportive messages its going to be ok! Once we know to what degree he has it and how it will be managed it will be better and definately the kick up the arse we both needed and as a family it is a blessing in disguise and can only help where ttc is concerned cant it!

So Ive been shopping with DD and felt so happy buying all healthy stuff...came home and emptied all the crap out ready to go to the soup kitchen and me and DD (who also wants to lose a few pounds the healthy way) made a lovely ham salad together and it was delicious!

Weve been weighed....david is going to jump on scales when he gets home and will get weighed every week and hopefully see the pounds dropping off us!

Maybe after what the Dr told us last week about him being overweight affecting the health of his sperm and now him being diagnosed was meant to be in order for us to get our fingers out, loose weight and hopefully (if Im not already pregnant) get and keep our sticky BFP asap!

I feel really positive about the healthy eating as although Ive put on loads of weight since being in wheelchair, I actually dont eat a lot (once a day) which is apparently just as bad as eating too much when trying to loose weight ........so yup here we go!

Team Healthy! lol

Thanks for all your messages ladies its means a lot and I know I will get lots of support with DH as well as TTC....

You lot are just the best!! xxx

Oh honey, sorry to hear this - I don't have any experience to offer but big hugs and hopefully it's something that can be controlled easily xxx

Just wanted to give you a big  and hope that things can be controlled without too much interference xx

No real experience myself but my uncle was daignosed with type 2 diabetes and it literally saved his life! Through all the testing etc they also found out he had prostate cancer (no symptoms) and 4 years later is now clear and very healthy! He doesn't manage his diabetes very well being a bachelor but I believe it was a blessing in disguise. Hopefully this will be yours!! And good luck for your new healthy start!!!

Thanks so much ladies.....I didnt get to see him till 8pm tonight with work etc and hes ok but bit subdued....he completely accepts its his way of life in the past and bad diet etc.....but hes also determined to get cracking with healthy eating now and stay positive!

xxx

Thanks Vix.....just wish I was so positive about getting another BFN this month as Im sure AF is about to appear anytime soon! lol

But yeah we are taking this as a warning and changing our lifestyles before its too late! xxx

Wilma, it must have been a shock to both of you, i know how you feel, i was 20 when i found out and i was devastated.
Believe me, you do adjust, its scarey at the moment because its the unknown, when they have sorted a treatment plan you will hopefully feel a bit better.
Years ago it was thought that you couldnt get pregnant if had diabetes but times have changed and so has medical science, its so much more common now and more people are aware of it.

Im the one whos an insulin dependant diabetic and look where i am now!
