hi, im suffering with severe insomnia and was wondering if anyone knows how long after the birth does it usually take for the insomnia to wear off? its driving me crazy:wall2:

I have no idea how long after birth it last but I know it varies in the 3rd trimester.
How far gone are you?

Try having some horlicks, put on LBC radio (on low) n try to sleep. It took a week but that has helped me big time.
Insomnia is frustrating as I suffer with it on a regular basis. It's hit me harder now as I cannot take my sleeping tablets now that I'm pregnant.

I struggled with sleep from the end of tri 1, was frustrating but I have found night feeds not too bad and when I get some sleep inbetween I sleep like a log and even though I get less time to sleep I'm sleeping better than when pregnant.

im 31+4 weeks, i have restless leg syndrome aswel which i have to have a warm bath in order to calm it down but even then i just cant drop off. i lay ther knackered but cant sleep at all. iv tried horlicks, tv on low, warm lavender baths and stayin up all day and night to knacker myself out to try and sleep night after but no joy, and its gettin worse every night. my doc prescribed a low dosage of sleepin tablets yesterday but i really dont wanna risk takin em.

Awww bbz u n I are in the same boat.
If u have any tea tree oil, a few drops of that and some lavender in the bath should help.
The restless leg syndrome is a real pain. A Lil walk around the house or put ur feet on a ball n roll it around for a Lil bit.
I refuse to take any sleeping tablets as the affects aren't known when it come to babies.

Or ask hubby to massage ur legs before u go to bed n it's good after a bath. (stick on a side lamp.)

Do you have any classical CDs? Bach n Vivaldi are real good for relaxing :)

Night feeds are better than the sleepless nights in pregnancy I agree , your so dog tired when you can get the opertunity to sleep, your sparko hun, so hang in there.

I found a pamper me type bath evening with lavender bath bubbles used to help

Can totally sympathise, I am the same - just lie there for hours every night dying to sleep. When do fall asleep same to wake up every hour. Guess only thing to do is to try and relax as much as possible - sometimes find playing a relaxation cd helps fall asleep initially (though annoyingly quite often wake up as soon as it finishes, argh!)

Hope it at least helps knowing you are not alone with this one! x

I've wrote a similar reply recently to a similar thread....seems to be sooo common in tri3. With one of my other children I had it really bad. I'd tried everything, but it was like my body had no idea how to sleep! I was fortunate enough to have a lovely Dr who prescribed me some safe sleeping pills which got me back into a sleep pattern after a few days.

I wouldn't hesitate this time around to visit the Dr again if all else failed.

i dont think i can say ive got insomnia problems as i can sleep during the day, but i cant bloody sleep at night for toffee!! last night i lay there for 4 hours listening to some hypnobirthing tracks, which definately gets me a little sleepy. but i just try and relax, dont think about anything, and by this point i am usually ok, and drift off about 4 am - so my advice is to listen to calming music! x

You'll be so tired with the baby that you won't have any trouble getting to sleep when your head hits the pillow!

I've said this to everyone but a camomile tea about an hour before bed works for me, until about 5am when I pee lol but then I got back to sleep!

I was the opposite! My son was such a nightmare newborn that my mum offered to babysit downstairs one night so me & hubby could sleep....i was sooooo excited about the prospect of having sleep after having none whatsoever for 4nights in a row that I couldnt get to sleep!! :wall2:

I wake up about 5 times a night to go to the loo, and usually can't get back to sleep after the 3pm one. I've now given up lying awake annoying hubby - I just go read in the sitting room till I feel like I'm about to sleep again, although that takes nearly 2 hours. Then havhe to get up and go to work!!

I imagine once baby is here, you'll be awake cos you need to be feeding, or you'll be so exhausted you'll sleep!
