Is anyone still taking Pregnacare / other vitamins? I stopped last week but am going to start again as I feel more tired and sick since stopping - unless this is psychological as my blood tests have just shown I'm anaemic...!

I am - when I remember

I doesn't hurt to take them all the way through - I have pregnacare thats for right up througb breastfeeding ;)

I am taking pregnacare - any extra vitamins etc has got to be good! It makes me feel less guilty when I eat pizza and chips. I am trying to eat healthy but I feel that pregnacare helps top up all the goodness that i may be lacking.

I write this as I am eating a pot noodle for lunch - whoops!!!

I'm not taking anything. Just eating well. Doc and MW told me if I was eating a balance diet then Baby was getting everything s/he needed.

I took some in first tri along with folic acic, but never really bothered since then.

I've increased my calcium by drinking a bit more milk and am eating fish (salmon etc) once a week now also and a few other things, so I feel I'm good :)

i took it religiously up until about 26 weeks and then i kept forgetting so i've given up now

I am but i'm really worried because i've missed quite a few days off an on (but never more than missed 2 in a row) but i am worried for my 20 wk scan because i'll blame my forgetfullness if it shows anything is wrong

I plan to take them all the way to breastfeeding as its the pregnacare ones that say you can.

LMP x

Thanks girls :D

LMP - don't worry, they're only really necessary for the first 12 weeks. After that they're really for making you feel a little better. Baby will take all of the nutrients and iron etc it needs before you get yours, so it's more to help you replace what they nick! xxx

I am still taking it, but considering cutting back to 1 every other day. I eat pretty well, so the only thing I was concerned about was folic acid really. Plus they are awful to swallow :|

I was told by the midwife to take them all the way through, still feeling pants though so am not sure what effect they are having.

Folic acid is needing to be taken up to 12 weeks. After that you can stop.

And ditto, they are like bombs to swallow. And I really don't like trying to swallow large tablets, makes me urge

Is your diet lacking? If you are eating well you should be feeling decent on a good diet and pills.

Maybe the vitamins are not the answer and there is another reason you are feeling a bit pants? Not that I mean to worry you, but you could be slightly anemic possibly. Depends what you mean by feeling 'pants'.

I still take them for myself as well as the baby
i found multivitamins with Omega 3 helped my skin problem and took them before i was pregnant.
when i forget for a few days my face used to break out. so ive carried on taking the pregnancy tablets.
I eat alot of fruit and veg both in meals as a snack and in drink form.
Si im covered both ways.
Dont worry about not taking them for a few days it will not harm the baby.

I used to take pregnacare up until about 16 weeks and then I just kept forgetting. I feel healthier now though to be honest. They made my wee bright illuminous and made me really constipated! sorry if tmi  Il find out if I should've kept taking themin a few days as I had my 28 week bloods done today - a bit early but was having a blood test anyway. Last time my bloods showed I was really healthy :D

Aha, I think I will cut back to every other day then. They are expensive and my iron levels are fine. Thanks!

I've started taking pregnancare as I feel really tired and dizzy all the time and as it's a multivitamin for pregnncy I thought no harm could be done by taking them only a good result could come from them. I'm hoping it does the trick for me.

Might be another reason for your being tired and dizzy. Getting enough iron? I'm sure they would have checked your bloods but if it continues go get another test to be on the safe side :) Try eating some iron rich foods maybe and see if they help?

I take sanatogen (or something like that) when I remember because my doctor recommended it. Personally, I think if he's going to recommend something it should be soething can get free on prescription

Anyway, as I say, when I remember. I think I last remembered a few weeks ago :rotfl:

As for feeling tired and rubbish, I've felt like that all through my pregnancy and that's just the way it is for me. My doctor recommended eating more green veg as most my fruit and veg is every colour but :D Carrots, babycorn, beetroot, apples, tangerines, onions....

I have taken pregnacare since day one and have felt ok on them. Also it gives the baby an extra boost.
Try to stick with them if you can.

Like Sherlock, as soon as I started being less nauseous and able to eat a (reasonably) healthy diet I stopped taking them.

Tilly is right - they do make you constipated, and it's worth noting that it's MUCH harder for your body to take in vitamins from a tablet than it is from food, so don't use Pregnacare as a substitute for a good diet! The fluorescent colour of the wee is because your body is absorbing very little of the vitamin B in the tablet so it comes straight back out again.

To be honest, if you do need them, every other day should be sufficient.
