Hi guys, this is going to sound really stupid but what is involved in the post natal check?

It depends on the birth you had.... mine was a straight forward one with no stitches or tears so it was only questions about how I was coping etc.

If you have stitches or tears the might do an internal.

Mine was the same. Just questions on how i was coping and what contreception i wanted. She offered me a smear too but i am due for one anyway.

My doc checked my uterus had gone back to normal, that my blood pressure was ok, asked me had I thought about contraception, how I was feeling, what excercises I could do to get my tum back to normal etc etc

Well all they did was checky my bp, ask what contraception i wanted, how i was feeling in general. I didn't get an internal or anything although i did have stitches - glad they didn't though, i've been poked and prodded enough in past few months to last me for a while!

Thanks guys. I was worried. I don't want to be messed with. I have my own personal reasons. It was fine for giving birth, but I don't want it otherwise.

I hate it that they try to push things on you like contraception though (and other things like what to do or don't do all day). I don't care what their reasons are. I don't believe in contraception and never will.

Icecream, even if they say they are going to do an internal, you can just refuse it. They can't force you into it.

Yes of course. I wouldn't want to jeopardise my health though if it was thought necessary. I didn't have any bad injuries though so it shouldn't be. I only had a little grazing.

i thought my 6 week check was a complete waste of time

the doctor only asked how i was... didn't check where my stitches were :wall:

but he did check keeley over which was good :)

Sophie didn't come to mine either - we both had ours done seperately on 2 different days which i thought was stupid!

Yes. My six wk after the birth check..

Does the baby have one?

The letter says "If possible, we would ask that you attend without your baby, or bring someone with you who can care for the baby whilst you are being seen by the nurse."

That makes it sound like they do want to examine me doesn't it? :(

Could be hun

I HAD to take Lennon as I had no-one else to look after him as my husband works in the week and Lennon comes everywhere with me anyway and while we were there, he had his first set of jabs and I had to have my section scar checked

at my six week check they asked to see keeley too :?

mayb it depends what part of the country you live in :?

I have my six week check up next week but have to book a seperate one for Brody at 8 weeks (2 appointments for Brody-one for his check up and the other for his first jabs)
I think everywhere must have different ways of doing it!
