Hello

I have had a scroll down and read through threads which kind of answer my questions but I guess I am just looking for some reassurance.

I had a section on January 14th. This was after being induced with prostin gel (twice), and being on the max dose of syntocin (sp?) drip overnight, diamorphine and an epidural. Then the epidural was topped up for the section.

Before i left hospital I had the worst runs ever - it was completely unpredictable

I came home on the 16th and since then I have only had a number 2 twice!! My bum really hurts - I think it is trapped wind because if I have a little parp it eases off!!
But I am scared to go to the toilet. I am still bleeding too - I thought it had stopped but it has started again, and I am now getting small clots. Not as big as a 50p piece though... I'm worried what will pop out if I strain too hard!

Does this sound normal??? Do you think my system could still be settling down after all the drugs? I have mentioned it all to (one of) my (many) midwive(s), she didn't seem too concerned.

Thanks
x

Yup, sounds VERY normal to me... just what I was like...

Except but then I hadnt stoped bleeding, I carried on bleeding constantly for about 4 weeks...! I also passed a few clots much bigger than 50p pieces over those weeks.

As for going for number 2's that one a once a week even for me if that!! It hurt to much lol.

Drink lots of water is all I can suggest!

This sounds completely normal! I was the same, constipated for a good few weeks after, I think it was about 3 and a half weeks before going for a number 2 was comfortable and vaugely regular! As for bleeding well I'm still having a tiny bit of brown loss everyday and Calum is 5 weeks old. The same as you, it trailed off and seemed to have stopped at about 2 weeks then came back. I think as long as you aren't passing large clots you're ok.

On the number 2 issue, if it hurts try and increase the amount of fibre in your diet and if you're concerned go to the docs for something to help!

Congrats on your LO's arrival!

yea im the same! blood loss for me was stop and start, id go a few days without and then if i went to tesco or something small like that it would be gushing again  tmi sorry.
like becky, im still loosing a bit now.

i was constipated until about a week ago and even now its not particulary comfortable but i am going more often. whenever i do "go" theres always a little blood from that end as well  again with the tmi sorry.

dont over do it, i thought i could do everything a week or so after my section, it will put u back though so be kind to yourself xx

Thanks girls
That has put my mind at ease.
Oh the joys!!

I don't feel like i've been particularly overdoing things but I also thought I would be back to normal within a week or so.. so maybe I should try and relax a bit more.

Thanks again

i agree, it does sound normal, also you may have a few tummy upsets for a little bit your body and bowel are getting better you have had a big op!!

Take it easy and DON'T strain just take your time when you go to the loo...

Apparently things don;t return to normal until upto a year after a c sect but it def gets a lot better after about 3months

I remember feeling almost back to normal by 6 weeks, everything does take quite a lot of time to settle down. I remember bleeding for up to 8 weeks iirc, and getting lots of clots. I did bleed profusely after my section and was delayed going up to postnatal ward cos of that. I don't know why that was, but I was severely anaemic, dunno if it was to do with that. Can't help with the constipation side of things, I was rather regular and normal. I do remember finding it weird I couldn't use my muscles to push the poos out, as it were  so I added lots of fibre to my diet and drank plenty. I found for me eating an apple a day and eating branflakes for breakfast really helped, and brown toast. Straining makes it worse. If needed take a book (or a puzzle book like I did!) with you to the loo and just relax.

HTH
