So when I start weaning baby, do I have to use special baby porridge or can I use normal porridge?

I think you can use Weetabix from 6 months but my lo loves Plum porridges and Cow &Gate too. You can give her french toast etc for breakfast too. Once you know she is ok with eggs.
Bear in mind they cant have wheat if you plan to wean earlier than 6 months

Tapatalking so cant see signatures

I started using readybrek and weetabix from 6months , the texture isnt smooth enough to use for first starting weaning in my opinion, before that I just used plain creamy baby porridge. Xxxx

I use the Aptimal one, it's delicious and gluten free. Got a freebie HIPP one, tasted like cardboard x

I was just pondering because I eat porridge with fruit most mornings for breakfast and I wondered of she could have the same stuff or if it was recommended to use packets of porridge by cow and gate or whoever.

I'm not weaning just yet. I don't think she's ready. I think the problems with her arm are holding her back a bit. :(

The HV told me to use breast milk with breakfast but the thought of tipping it on her weetabix I find a bit weird lol.

while were on subject of porriedge does anyone know of one that isnt creamed based for babies!! as my other two loved the stuff whe i first started weaning but this LO is lactose intolerent so need one not creamed based if you understand lol :) xx

Tor a lot of the baby porridges you make up with water as it has dried milk already in it. Cow and gate ones you use milk but Hipp and Heinz use water x

Lol it's ok, im still clueless now!! I always end up putting water in the one you need milk and vice versa! Took me ages to click on! X

As someone else said, if your weaning early, no wheat before 6 months.

When we started weaning (at 6months) we used plum baby porridge (Kayden had suspected CMA & that was only 1 w.out lactose)

I would say try baby stuff just for a wee while then after a few weeks move onto normal porridge, ready brek is great, as its really fine.

:)

i use ready brek and rusks as a breakfast base. will be giving toast too soon as she can now pick up things and chew quite happily. id think porridge would be fine at 6 months as its the same as baby ones really as long as its got no sugar etc. i cant see the point in wasting money on the special baby versions if there arent any sugar etc in the adult ones. id use bm but its a pain to express some every day just for brekkie lol since i already use formula

Thanx hun for the know how on lactose free stuff

not really sure what CMA is but will look at the other stuff for later on too xx

I still use milk in the Heinz that you make with water lol he prefers it x

xxx

Plum do nice milk free porridges, cow &gate too as my lo.has cma so i make it up with his formula.

cma is cows milk allergy. there is a cow and gate porridge thats cma free but we literally read thw box on every porridge to check x

its complicated with a cows milk allergy because alot of the baby foods that say lactose/dairy free, were made in factories where there could be contamination, there is one brand that says the whole factory is dairy free but I cant mind which one.

:)

If you manage to get to nearer 6 months normal porridge should be fine, we BLW and T loved porridge fingers and thick porridge, my friend spoon fed more but never actually pureed anything just mashed and her LO was fine. May be try with bits of mashed banana to guage the textures you LO prefers :flower:

I used baby porridge before 6 months. Now he has weetabix from breakfast and microwave flapjacks made out of porridge oats that someone recommended :)

I have been weaning E for a week now and she has really enjoyed the Plum brand of baby porridge, and I've just added my own pureed fruit to it.
