Hi mums!

I have a 4.5 year old who has started pooing his pants again. He has been potty trained for 2.5-3 years now. He is the eldest and I also have 2 other boys.

Without exaggerating he ruins his trousers 10-20 times a day. They're not proper poos but enough to make his pants dirty.

Is it attention seeking?

He goes to nursery with his brother and never ever has any accidents there, only goes for a poo once a day without any problems.

I've tried to ask him and talk to him but he says he doesn't know why he does it.

Never noticed any problems after I had my second baby - do you think it's to do with the new baby in the house now? It's been going on for about 2 months now...

Please help!

Hi he maybe be doing it for attention as I've noticed my 4 year old step daughter has started doing since my daughter was born .6 weeks ago and she never done if before x

they do all sorts when a new baby is in the house! it could well be to do with this - if it was something out of his control he would be doing it at nursery too.

It's hard but try not to make an issue of it and just change him without comment and carry on - or seeing as he's over 4 I would get him to go get himself some new pants - get him to wipe himself clean and get changed and then get him to put his dirty pants in the washing machine - he may not be so happy doing it if he has to deal with it himself.

If my DD who is 3.5 wets herself because of putting off going to the loo because she's 'busy' I get her to go get her new knickers and trousers and then to wipe her legs etc and get dressed and put wet clothes in the machine - she went a week doing it every day, but after i got her to sort herself out she stopped just like that! lol

Is there anything at home that may be creating stress? Kids may start pooing if afraid of something. Try talk to him to figure it out.

I like this suggestion. Like others have said, if it was something he couldn't control, he'd be doing it at nursery too. Sounds like it could be an attention seeking thing. In which case, I would definitely not make a big deal of it. Just loads of really positive praise and attention for other stuff :) He's definitely old enough to be cleaning himself up when 'accidents' happen.
