Can anyone reassure me that they went through it and when/how it got better?
Sam is 4 weeks old and i just can't seem to settle him for more than short periods of time and he will just cry and cry no matter what i do. It was worse just in the evenings but now happening all day long!
Today for example the only thing i can seem to do to settle him is breastfeed and i've been doing it ALL morning! He's been on infacol since week 1, tried a dummy but he rarely wants it, and I don't think he has reflux. Am on the verge og giving up BFing as am not sure he's getting enough although his weight gain is fab he's 9lb8oz now. We even went to see a cranial osteopath yesterday and she said he has a stiff neck, he screamed bloody murder after the treatment and then slept all afternoon (unheard of) but i think he was just knackered from all the screaming! Anyway we go back monday for another treatment but i don't have high hopes as i just can't see a light at the end of this tunnel. Please share your stories of hope with me

Sounds like colic luv!

The main thing to remember is IT WILL PASS!!

I've heard great reports about cranial osteopathy (sp), so maybe you need to try a few sessions of it to really see results?

Also, have you tried colief? You get it in the chemist and it breaks down the lactose in the milk to help digestion.

Sending OH to chemist in his lunchbreak to buy some colief as i've heard good things about it

awww def sounds like colic hun. after a fed when hes crying does he sort of grunt as if hes pushing down on his belly or bring his legs up when he screams? thats a sure sign of colic then. I use to wind my boy every oz so maybe wind every couple of mins and then just sit him up and rub his back till he calmed down and stopped pulling his legs up. Sometimes he would be fine after a bottle other times id sit there bouncing him on my knee for about 4 hours till he calmed down at 3 am :bored: still makes me feel knackered thinking about it.

It does pass though the last time my son suffered from trapped wind was in the first week of him turning 4months and its never happened again. Hes just replaced screaming with wind for screaming when hes having a tantrum now

Poor thing  my lil man screamed for the 1st 4weeks of his life non-stop. Then 90% of the time for the next 5weeks - and here we are now!!!

I tried everything, again, have hurd great things about cranial ostiopath, I tried it, it didnt work for me, but my LO has reflux not colic, so it wudnt.

It does get better, you will find ways of coping, and take all the help you can get - colic passes at about 3 months, mabey sooner if the cranial ostiopath can help :)

Good luck, I know what its like, if you want to PM any time feel free.

Sounds like colic to me.

Sucking gives relief from colic and if he seems to want your boob it may be for the sucking, not the actual milk. The milk may only serve to make his colic worse on occasion.

You said you tried a dummy but he didn't take it. Have you tried the ones that imitate the shape of a nipple? Breastfed babies often find them better to take than plain dummies. We got NUK ones for our LO at 3 weeks old as he was a very demanding feeder and then developed colic.

We got the latex ones. Our LO takes them really well and has done since we started using them. The website homepage lists stockists.

its sooo tough having a colicky baby - hang in there hon. try the colief and the nuk dummies and remember that it will get better. judging by his weight gain your LO is def getting enough to eat but is using you for comfort; tbh, with or without colic, some babies just do this anyway - i reckon connor would hang off my boobs all day if i let him, unless there was something good on telly

I found a soother really helped me and my baby when all she did was breastfeed and cry! It took perseverance for her to actually take it but it saved my sanity. A sling was invaluable in the first 6 weeks or so as the motion settled her like nothing else!

I have also found that sticking to a simple pattern of eating, playing and then sleeping really worked for us and the predicatability of her day and the regular rests really made her a more settled baby. I 'loosely' follow the advice from the baby whisperer book but as I don't actually have the book myself what I do is not to the letter! By 6 weeks things had really settled down. Kathryn now feeds for around 20 mins every 2 and a half to 3 hours, has 3 naps of around 1 or 1 and a half hours each day. She goes to bed at around 7pm waking up at 4am for a feed and then around 6am to start her day.

Good luck xxx

What everyone else has said really
I would recommend you try a dummy but only as long as you feel LO has got a good latch when feeding, I was most definatley NEVER going to give my child a dummy, then I encountered colic and v v sore nips and changed my mind lol
We use the Tommee tippee orthodontic ones with a shaped teat and havent had an nipple confusion probs but the sucking was so soothing for Eva and it definately got us through the worst colicky weeks, now we just have silent reflux to deal with and she likes to suck then too, prob helps to wash the acid back down.
Good luck you have lots of sympathy here
