My LO got up on all 4s today and started rocking, not long now til hes on the move. My MIL has said we should get a playpen to keep him safe, that it was the best thing she ever had with her babies.

She gave me £60 to pay for one but I dont know what to do now. I could get a travel cot for cheaper and give her some of the money back (I feel bad!) or we could get this:

Or we could get the same thing for £45 2nd hand on my local nearly new board, but I know my MIL doesnt really like 2nd hand stuff for him and as she's paying...)

So what are your thought on actual play pens, will a travel cot do?

I've just got a travel cot that I'll use as a playpen when the time comes!

This might sound really dim but what are they used for? Liv always just has free roam of the house (within limits of course) and I'd never even thought about getting a play pen x

I used a travel cot when i just had K, but then when I moved here I ended up buying a playpen! They're just a bit more robust! I just use mine for storage now with the big toys and had it blocking off stuff too! I found it a godsend when they were younger, I could throw one in and keep them
Safe or throw them both in whilst I had a shower! It was really useful when she didn't have any sense of danger and I needed to do something! Actually, who am I kidding, she still doesn't have one lol! But she's a bit safer now!

keeping the dog and baby separate when Im out of the room! Also he seems to go for everything he's not supposed to get into, at the minute he cant get to it easily, but once he's off Im not sure what Ill do with him when Im in the shower etc... theres noone else here to keep an eye for me. To be honest I wasnt that bothered about getting one but MIL really thinks I should have one

Ah i get it! I just put liv in her cot when i have showers and she plays and if i leave a room i make sure the dogs come with me because it scares me to think of them alone with her as they are huge x

Yeah it worries me too with the dog. I didn't think of putting him in his cot! I think I'll get the travel cot which we'll use for holidays too and MIL will be happy. I wasn't going to get one really cos I thought I'd cope without but I suppose if she's paying so we won't be out of pocket

Mil told us she would buy him a cot but were still waiting, so for now he's sleeping in the basinette bit and when she gets round to bothering well just use this for holidays or as a play pen.

I absolutely love it, it's so cute and the basinette rocks when he wriggles so it sends him back off to sleep. Best thing we've got for him. And my momma bought it us so even better!!

i will use a travel cot as i dont want it to take up too much room plus i think it will be nice for the dog to have a break from the baby when he can get about!!
