Hey, I have such bad hayfever and the instructions say you may wish to consult your docotr but everything I've read says it's safe to take Piriton. Does anyone else know? One doctor I have is reluctant to give me anything another even gave me a mild steroid cream for eczema it just seems so conflicting.

Not sure about this hun, but I always find my local pharmacist more helpful than the GP when it comes to this sort of thing. They know so much more about the actual drug than the GP does, maybe it would be worth popping in to your local chemist? Good luck :)

Personally I wouldn't use it without being prescribed by a doctor. Hayfever and allergy relief seems like a bit of a grey area. I even spoke to a pharmasist and she said to see a doctor.

Sorry to Tri hop, but I spotted this and wanted to read it. I normally take strong antihistamines full time for food allergies and in the summer, terrible hayfever. When I got my BFP I went straight to the GP who took me off the ones I was on. He read through his book of medicines (BNF??), which is the 'bible' to anyone who prescribes or handles medicines. In there it said basically that no antihistamines have been tried and tested for pregnant women, however, Chlorphenamine (which is the active ingredient in Piriton I believe) showed as having no known side effects in Pregnancy.

Most medication in pregnancy that says this, they will give to you if you really, really need them. Basically if not having them could cause real harm to you and/or the baby.

I would advise going to speak to your GP if you feel you really, really need something. I am managing (just) with nasal spray and eye drops and smelly stuff on my pillow at night so I can breathe (why does it get worse at night?). I carry some antihistamines for my food allergy, best I take them than have a real emergency on my hands if need be, luckily I've not needed them so far.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks a lot, I think I am just being a baby and should just deal with it to be honest. I don't have severe food allergies, Congrats on nearing the end of your first trimester sunshine :)

I had a rash on my belly and they told me to take antihistamine for it, so I assume that means its ok to take piriton. If you're really suffering then you have no choice hun x x
