Pint

I really dont think 1 pint is going to make any differance, Like others have said dont beat yourself up about it.

Even when not pregnant I don't really have much alcohol (unless it has been a big night out) so I don't see the harm in 1 drink every now and again. I like to have a glass of wine on a Friday night, so I don't think one glass a week will do any harm. I did this with Lola and no harm was done, in fact she is very bright, so do not feel guilty or beat yourself up about it! :D If you feel that guilty don't have a drink in the first place

xxxx

I had a white wine spritzer the other day and it was like heaven!!

Well since being pregnant I have had a Hen Party, my wedding and honeymoon so I wasnt not going to have a glass of champagne!! The guide lines for alcohol consumption HAS recently changed to zero but if you read further there actually isnt any new evidence to support this change. Its something the gov have done to stop women drinking excessively when pregnant - the mentality of "well if I can have one or 2 a week why not 3 or 4". I think as long as it is few and far between there isnt anything wrong with it. I know my mum drank lager when she was preggers with me and my 2 brothers and there isnt anything wrong with us!! (Well thats what I tell myself anyway!)
I think we all know ourselves what our bodies tell us we should and shouldnt do and whats best for our babies so if you had one pint of lager then I very much doubt it would cause any harm and probably do you the world of good cos you got to have a special treat which would have made you feel fab.

am with you there jen... just as our government have said that you shouldn't drink anything during pregnancy, NICE have come out and said that 1.5 units a day is ok...!!

for the life of me i'm not advocating drinking heavily - or even regularly - during pregnancy. i didn't drink at all from finding out i was pregnant right up until 14 weeks but i have had the odd small glass of wine or cava since. and i'm not going to feel bad about it, and don't think anyone else should as long as it is only a small infrequent amount.

personally i'm just as aware of all the other chemicals my body is absorbing on a daily basis and try to limit those too - there are a lot of ingredients in shampoo, deodourant, makeup, perfume etc that, although tested individually, have never been tested properly on humans in the combinations that we use and in the quantity that we absorb.

I think the reason there are mixed messages is because they don't know. They know for certain that high amounts cause birth defects but not where the cut off point is. Since 2003 there has been news articles that there could be connections between ADHD etc and alcohol consumed in pregnancy.

As they don't yet know what they MAY be looking for years down the line it's hard for them to declare any level safe, all they do know is that alcohol has proven potential to cause serious defects.

I drink very little anyway so I'm kind of aware it would be a bit false for me to say what anyone else should do, I've eaten squishy eggs, even a rare joint of beef so I don't come up like someone perfectly cautious. That aside I think it's worth at least knowing it may well be harmful - informed choice and all that.

No one can turn back time so I don't think there's any point in feeling really awful - there's more point in thinking about whether drinking in the future is worth the risk.

I'll find some articles if you like about what I've said above.
