Pick up put down technique???

Hi Kim

It's a verson of controlled crying to teach your little one to settle themselves on their own/improve their sleep periods.

You put your little on in their bed, awake, at sleeptime
If they cry you go into them, pick them up and give a pat on the back and some shhing then put them back down in the cot and leave the room.
If they cry again you go back into the room and repeat the "pick up, put down" that you have just done.
You keep doing this until they go to sleep.

Is Rubie a good sleeper?

She was...

From 3 months she slept through and never woke once, but in the last couple of weeks she wakes once or twice a night, and I have trouble getting her to bed. She gets hysterical when I put her in her cot. As I'm back at work now I'm really suffering it as I'm up for hours in the night then have to get up and go to work :bored:

The controlled cying doesn't work as I can't settle her without picking her up, she's just as hysterical whether I'm there or not, but picking her up often soothes her, that's why I was curious.

Thanks for letting me know what it is, I might try it tonight :D

Any good Kim?

Beany (not Beanie) did lots of this with Lawson, it really worked for her.

Yes it went really well! I started it on Monday and it took 25 mins to get her to sleep, tuesday was 15 mins, wed 10 mins, thursday i went to amsterdam and my mum had her, she did the same and it took 5 mins. last night i was still away and my dad put her to bed but she was having none of it! she cried and cried so he took her downstairs and she fell asleep within seconds. let's see what tonight brings

Good luck, it sounds like this could be the technique for you!

thanks :D

Tonight was a bit different as she wouldn't drink her milk downstairs like she usually does so I took it up with her and she had it in her cot. she was really dozing but when i got downstairs she woke and cried. i ended up going back up 3 times, but still it only took her about 20 minutes. Not bad I say

really glad to hear it's working for you Kim.

Does Rubie ever wake during the night? I am yet to try any other soothing method other than to give a breastfeed during the night but doing a really softy softy version of controlled crying helped to sort out Olivia going to bed.

Yes she has started to Lucy, only in the last few weeks. Not every night, maybe 2 or 3 times a week, she will wake and be up wide awake for an hour. I have to hold her til she falls back to sleep then try and put her down without waking her (very hard lol) so she doesn't wake anyone else up.

Hi Kim

I just wondered if you were going to try the pick up/put down during the night as well as the going to bed routine?

I can only do the repeated going into her at the weekend otherwise DH gets a bad nights sleep which isn't any good because he works long and hard but usually (I'm jinxing it now) she sleeps well over the weekend! So can't try it
