Just thought I'd give you an update, as I had such nice support messages...

I went for another reassurance scan today (my third - and I'm only at 9 weeks!) and this time the doctor said everything was fine. The first one they sent me for was at five weeks (because of my miscarriage), which I didn't want to attend as I thought it was too early and, sure enough, they couldn't find a heartbeat (so it wasn't very reassuring...). Then, last week, they saw a heartbeat but also saw some tissue they couldn't identify, so they asked me to go back today.

Today I saw a baby! It looked like a baby, I could see the heartbeat... God, what an amazing feeling... It makes such a difference - I had been bracing myself for the worst after last time and was prepared for them to tell me there were problems... Just seeing what is there inside me, it makes it so much more real.

Going to have a hard time not bonding now, I've been doing so well trying to be sensible and realistic too...

Just wondered, do any of you have the same facility we have in Greater Manchester? The centre I've been going to is what they call an EPAU(Early Pregnancy Assistance Unit) and it's a free scan walk-in clinic for anyone who is up to 12 weeks pregnant. I hadn't heard about it, I'm not sure it's widely broadcasted and I think even though it's officially a drop-in, most people are referred (as I was). I was so surprised that it existed when I found out about it but I've since heard a ot of people talking about regularly using it for reassurance.

really glad things went well and you got to see your baby!! :cheer:

We have an EPAU here but its not a drop in, you have to be referred. I think it is a good idea to have a drop in though.

Glad everything is ok.

 excellent news.

We have an EPU clinic too. You need to be referred though (I think) but I got an appt within 3 hours when I needed one. They were brilliant with me when I was really poorly at 5 weeks. I do not know how I would have coped with the pain etc.. with out their reassurance!

oh that's fantastic what a relief for you and you saw your baby how wonderful. I went for an early scan at 7 weeks for reasurance after my m/c (but we had to pay as doc wouldn't refer me she didn't see the point the cow)

Like flame we have an EPU unit at my local hopsital but you have to be referred.

Aww im sure that was such a relief for you seeing your baby. I hope everything else goes to plan.

Thanks guys. I agree, I think having a walk-in centre is such a good idea, they don't widely advertise the facility (for obvious reasons) but if you have a bad history it makes so much difference to be able to go in at any time up to twelve weeks and get some kind of reassurance.

It's very busy as you can imagine, and most people there have the same frantic look in their eyes that I did indicating they probably have a good reason for needing reassurance, so I would hope that peope wouldn't abuse the service (although I did overhear one lady who said she came in every few days to have a look 'cos you might as well, eh?')

Now... just three weeks to wait until the 12 week-er... My poor husband, I must be a nightmare to live with...
