I LOVE Polish!! ALways wanted some but I've heard they are dead hard to keep as they don't see well from under their crests? Do you find this?
Well she is a bantam Polish so a lovely size. Not noisy, loves company of both chickens and people (and dogs when around) and a real personality. Loves to perch on shoulders and anywhere else for that matter. The first month we had her she was small and thought she was a house chicken and used to come in for refuge and sit on my feet or fall asleep between them when I was sat at the computer in the evening

Too cute.
Her crest needs regular mite powder treatment and I've had no problems so far. I used to trim her feathers round her eyes (wrapped her in a tea towel, she sat down and I went to work with the scissors very carefully) so she could see out, but stopped that a while back and now tie it all up in a top knot

She gets a new lease of life and runs everywhere then. And is very inquisitive. Wherever people are she likes to be right there. If they can't see out they do tend to run into things and so on. They are also quite nervous of noise and sudden movement, so are better kept in a run or large pen I find. Total free ranging isn't for them alas as they do tend to zoom off and get lost when scared. I once found her one field away trying to get through the fence going the other way when I'd let them out to free range for an hour and a helicopter had scared her off
Honestly, if you have room for a couple and have a run you can keep covered in wet weather then go for it. They make wonderful pets and are apparently not broody in the least which helps. They don't do well in draughts or damp conditions hence needing a covered run (we put a big sheet of thin wood over her run in winter) and if it rains in summer or her creat gets wet its out with the hairdryer on her, which she loves

Leaving it damp means they run the risk of getting ill. They are not a hardy breed like some, quite delicate infact. They also need company of other hens, preferably another Poland or small breed so they don't get pecked or chased.
I'd not be without Stella and have been looking for another Poland to go with her but as yet no luck. Hopefully next spring she'll have a fellow Poland to keep her company. For now she is very happy with the Pekins
Erm yeah I love my chooks

*shuts up now*
And hiding in the bathroom cupboard?
