I've just got back from a long weekend in London and it ended up being massively stressful due to people being bloody ignorant and rude. Honestly don't know how the ladies on the forum who live in London cope.
Firstly just walking down the street people just walked at me (not like u can teleport out the way with a big bump and wobbly pelvis) nearly got knocked over many a time, then on the tube no one gives up their seat for you even when visibly pregnant and struggling, one woman sat the entire journey at eye level with my bump for 5 stops as I was clinging on to a pole infront of her then she got up to get off and actually pushed me out of the way by elbowing me in the bump?? Wtf sort of person does that??? Best one was the man who waited til I'd swipe my oyster card to get out of the tube station and he barged me out of the way and went through the barrier instead leaving me trapped in the underground as my card thought I'd already got out so wouldn't work, had to push through crowds of people to find a staff member to let me out, was nearly crying, oh was waiting on other side of barriers unable to help me and frantic.

Not saying its all londoners it was actually mostly the foreign tourists who were worse, but it ruined my weekend away I was so protective of my bump I made oh walk infront of me to shield me!

why are some people so disrespectful of fairly heavily pregnant women?????

Like you said foreign tourists :p dont really care, probably wanted to see you struggle, i know feeling though, i get it all time and i live in bristol.. :s just way some people are sometimes, just have to be firm and say to them 'GET OUT THAT SEAT!!' lol

I really dislike london - sorry to any londoners but it is the smelliest most horrible place i've been in my life. Personally dont know how people can live there, it stinks to the high heavens, and the people are another story altogether.

Yuk

It sounds rough, I bet you must be so happy to be home now! For those who think London is bad, try visiting NYC. Rotting garbage in the streets and fetid water all over, it's sooooo gross!

That man :strangle: How dare he! Sounds like you had a rough time hun, hope you're ok now you're home x

Least your back home now. I'm originally from that part of the world and it's def one of those places where people tend to only think of themselves, like you said a lot of the time it's not even British people, I find Scotland a lot friendlier! I think the days where people give up seats for pregnant women and elderly are well gone, people generally don't care anymore anywhere.

I work in London and hate the place with a passion!
people can be so rude and arrogant.
I never realised til I got pg how much people rush and barge about

I'm not central London but live south east london but yep I agree happens all the time! Like on the food shop I had a heavy basket an I'm huge and was waiting at the self scan and a bloke just walked in front of me!! I didn't have the energy to argue u know, and a couple of things fell out the basket and I struggled to bend down to get them and people just watch!! There r nice times though but some people can be so ignorant!!

I have to go through southall everyday and the people are shocking! Grannies barge you out the way to get on the busses! Urgh hate it!

horrible! I would hate this! One of the reasons I don't go to London often - too busy... Maybe these people didn't mean any harm, that's just the lifestyle and is considered normal, you know? Anyway, I can totally understand you being upset.

hm, I don't think I'll be going to London any time soon...

Thanks everyone! my oh is really upset about it as he thinks he puts me in a dangerous position just for a weekend away, its worse because he has come into work this morning and found out his colleague gave birth at the weekend and the baby was stillborn. I didnt know his colleague and hadnt met her but I cant stop crying about it, I am so devastated for her.

Makes me even more mad that there are people out there who will elbow a bump or stand and watch a woman struggle to pick things up dropped out of her basket, when we really are carrying the most precious thing in the world, and its something that could so easily end in tragedy. I just want my baby here now and safe in my arms

I live in Greater Manchester and I have to say more often than not people are very polite and thoughtful. I have been on the metros before whilst pregnant and people would always give up their seat if they saw me. In busy shopping centres or supermarkets though its a different story. People will happily see you struggle or actually push into you.

At my local supermarket though when I was pregnant with my son, I was trying to lift my daughter into the trolley and a lovely lady could see I was struggling with a heavy toddler and a huge bump. She held the trolley still for me whilst I got her in. So nice that people do sometimes notice you could use another hand and come to help :)

It's the same here in Germany. The Germans are so insensitive & very, very ignorant! They will try queue jump & all sorts!

But this is a time I let my guard down & my hormones become unleashed, I HAVE to say something. My hubby hates it & gets embarrassed. But these bloody people need to be told lol! xx

Has anybody noticed The Trafford Centre is turning into a mini London!! Everybody seems to be in such a rush and so bloody rude!! I felt the urge to punch an OAP on Saturday! Stupid cow knocked me clean of my feet barging into me tryna get to the sale rack!!! I went flying!! My hormones Wer raging that day so she got a gobful of me!! Hmmmmppffff!

I live in SE London and I just want to get out and live in the SW of England sooo much! There are nice people here, but the majority of people just rush around like the world will end if they don't get somewhere 2 seconds before the next person. When DH and I go away for weekends to parents, we always visibly relax and love the slower pace (slower as in less haste and therefore more actual productive speed...and time seems to go on for ever), then the moment we get back it's like a bubble bursts and all the fecks start pushing, shoving, glaring, etc. And then we feel our heart rates go up and the shoulders rise and uuuugh it all starts again. A man tried to push my DH off the bus the other day in order to get off it!! There are lovely parts of London, and I will always be fond of it and want to see the attractions, but lemme out of here as a resident!!!!!

I am so sorry you had such an awful time, hon. I would have been in tears, too. Tell your OH not to worry - he did nothing wrong. He treated you and it's so not his fault London has so many rude and aggressive people. My DH calls a lot of commuters 'low-grade psychopaths' haha! He is so right!! No empathy with some people.

Hugs for you and please don't worry and let it upset you. Sounds like you're a wee bit traumatised - get yourself some long baths and chill out with some good music. xxxx

Thanks! I think I am going to have a really relaxing night in tonight, sofa, tv, bath, bed, and just try and chill a bit!

I've always hated where I live and thought York was soooo boring and wanted to live in a fast paced city, but I can honestly say walking through town this lunchtime was such a relief, loads of space on the pavements and no barging, York is a dream for pregnant ladies!!!! Dont get me wrong we have the same ignorant wont give their seats up or help with shopping bags ar5eholes here too but I can at least avoid them by getting straight in my car and driving home :) not a tube in sight!!!

Funny how a lot of us have had trouble with old people doing the barging! whats that all about??? they are the first to moan about respect lol!!!!

I'm defo going to be a lot harsher and firmer with people now and just say how I feel, I was just so exhausted at the weekend I didnt have the energy to fight back, but now its game on!!!

im sorry u've had a crap few days hunny!

i must say though, i'm from london, born and raised and still live here now. to me, its the best city in the world and i've been to a few!

the problem is that most people who come go to the west end, oxford street etc - which is 90% full of people...who aren't from london!!

areas such as chelsea, kensington, notting hill, chiswick are lovely and if i could afford to live there id do it rather than anywhere else in the UK.

because of work i often have to travel to other parts of the UK and usually can't wait to get back to london!

i know most people come for work but it is the most populated part of the country with people moving from across the globe...can't be that bad!?

xxx

I'm with you pos, london born and bred and love the place and the people. Live in Cardiff now for work reasons but i'd go back to London if I could. Problem is Londoners get frustrated with tourists and people not knowing where they are going, when they just want to get on with their day, most real londoners are great, but as you say, a lot of people in London aren't londoners! Sorry you didn't have a great time there though hun, xx

That's where I was referring too - it's deadly in there! I have been physically pushed many times when I'm very obviously pregnant. It's the same when I go in with my daughter she is only 3 and I fear for her I really do! She is almost 4 but I won't let her walk around as I'm too scared she been knocked off her feet! I was shopping in Next kids in my last pregnancy and I was actually pushed into a rack of clothes with those long metal things that stick out, went straight into my bump! I flew into a rage!! Ridiculous!
