Does anyone do this? have an informal arrangment... if so, how much do you pay them and do you pay them for petrol separately if they use their car for running LO around?

We are considering this.

It's a bit of a grey area isn't it as the whole tax thing could get complicated.... in theory I guess the fmaily member needs to be "self-employed" as an unqualified nanny (?) and then declare their earnings?

as far as i know to get help with paying for childcare from working tax the person has to be registered other wise it has to come out of your own pocket.

to claim money back on tax credits they have to be a registered childminder or nursery as tax credits with ask for their registration number

Yes I know this would come out of our own pocket and we wouldn't be able to claim tax credits etc. But we are weighing up the pros and cons and we are thinking our LO would get 1:1 attention and we totally trust the family member who we are considering. Was just wondering what people paid?

Thanks.

my nephews mum pays my motherin law £70 a week that for 4 days a week 7.30am till 5pm

When I was working & my Mum was looking after Harrison we paid her £30 a week and that was for Monday, Tuesday mornings, Wednesday, Thursday morning & Friday. I know its such a small amount but thats what she wanted and she also worked of an evening when I picked Harrison up.

my mum looked after james for me weekday mornings while i was at work from 6months to 18months.
I cant remember how much i paid her, it wasnt that much, it was a lump sum every month towards food, petrol etc.
i couldnt claim any tax credits cos she's not registered, and she didnt declare it as earnings. she wasnt really earning anthing anyway, just being reimbursed for feeding james and the other expenses :D

my mum has jack twice a week but i dont pay her anything

my mum was looking after kacy when i was at work, but didn't give her any money she still has kacy on monday and wednesdays now even though i'm on maternity leave. My mum does it because she wants to, and she still works part time.
