Just wondered if anyone else has experienced pain whilst using breast pumps? I had an Avent manual one which I didn't get on with so I bought an electric one which cost £100 but I cant use it because it hurts so much. I can manually express fine, but it doesn't yield enough.

Does anyone have any tips? I have tried using the pump after a relaxing bath and at different times of the day, with baby present etc but I only get a small amount and end up feeling bruised for the next couple of days.

Have you got it on a too high setting?
Is the shield the right size?

If you have blocked ducts it can feel bruised so you would need to massage your breasts down towards the nipple to loosen everything up. Also I rub a little olive oil round the inside of the Shield as the lubricant stops it rubbing.

Hope this helps x

Thanks MrsT. I have tried all different settings. I do think the shield is possibly too big, but I can't get hold of a smaller one as the only website that seems to sell them has none in stock.
I will give the oil a go.

No problem, feel free to ask any questions as I express exclusively and I believe there are other ladies on the forum that do similar.
I found to start with I expressed every 2 hours for a short time and increased the pumping time till it felt comfortable. 8 weeks on I pump every 4 hours for 15 minutes and get 2 lots of feeds but it's taken a while to get to this stage! X

My health visitor said to try it just after a feed don't know if that would b any help Hun I have the same pump n I found it quite sore on my nipples lol! But mine are still very tender n havnt really settled since ivstarted feeding n baby is 4 wks tomorrow so I'm hoping they settle down it's fine once he's on but the first minute or 2 is toe curling!!!
Sorry off topic lol good luck with expressing I'm starting that too this week to try him with a bottle xxx
