Hello again
So, got some good advice re getting these kits off ebay, see u can buy in bulk for a reasonable price and get free charts and things.

I take it I can just use my diary as easy as any chart?

One (well a few) further question - which is going to make me sound so naive - sorry. How do these things work? I will be waiting for my first af after stopping taking the pill so is there even any point in doing these tests until after I've had my first af? Are there loads of different types? Do you pee on a stick like a preg test?

Sorry I'm thick. Never wanted children until recently so I've never been intersted in looking into these things (i didn't even know they existed til recently) duh:shock:

The veterans of this site are going to think I'm such a dumbass.
Thanks girlies xx

Don't be sorry! Nobody has a clue until they start out! The tests will be like pregnancy tests but detect luteinising hormone (LH) instead of hCG. We produce a certain amount of LH all the time, but there is a surge in its production before ovulation (usually 12-48 hours before). It's best to test after lunch sometime (I used to test at 2pm and 6pm but any time around then is fine and there's no real need to test twice in a day) as the LH surge happens in the morning so doesn't appear in your urine until later in the day. The tests (I assume you'll be getting cheap strip tests but some of the more expensive kits work in different ways) are only considered positive when the test line is at least as dark as the control line.

I would wait until you have your first AF, as you don't want to waste money and tests when you have no idea at all when you might ovulate.

I assume the charts they are offering are graphs for you to plot your temperature on if you are temping too - quite useful to do as well as using opks as you'll see a temperature shift immediately after ovulation, and your temperature then remains higher until your next cycle starts - so a positive opk followed by a temperature rise is a good sign that you've ovulated. There are free sites that you can sign up for to chart any temperatures and make a note of any other changes during your cycle, lines on opks etc. though - fertility friend is a good one.

Good luck! :dust:

Don't be sorry , I didn't know how to work them until i went for a gander on here yesterday , I thought you had to do them In the monring same as PT but you have to do them later on in the Afternoon Preferably between 2pm and 6pm as that is the best time and there is certain amount of LH surge in your Urine.

You say you've come off the pill , what pill was this?

Still I think you should wait for AF first though , I know it can be tempting to do one though , But patience is a virtue , more patience the faster it will happen:)

Pm me if you need any more Info , I will help you :)

Thanks for the feedback girlies. I was on Yasmine. Allegedly this has less hormones in it so hopefully they won't take too long to bugger off. I was on Cerazette about 2.5 years ago. It was hideous. I normally have great skin (never even had spots as a teenager) and I just broke out in the hugest most painful spots ever. Needless to say cerazette was binned after a v, short amoutn of time. I'm gonna order the testing kits from ebay tonight and then wait til af arrives and start trying to track it then xx

I've heard good things about Yasmine :) Hope it doesn't take you too long to get your cycles back to normal x

thanks sams mum!!
I seem to remember them being very erratic before I was on the pill but then I was only 15 so they never were really given the chance to get into a decent routine.

Sam's a great name by the way, its on my list too for if and when IT hapens xx
