Hi ladies,

I am thinking of swapping my 18 month olds sleeping bags for a cot bed duvet set soon, she normally has a blanket at nap time anyway so hoping she will be ok with the transition but I am not sure what to do regarding a pillow. She has always slept fine without a pillow but I didn't know when most people start introducing them and if you have do you think they sleep better with one? I want to get her settled into her new cotbed before baby brother arrives and steals her current cot so want to make a big thing out of her having big girl bedding. The thought of a pillow scares me though due to suffocation etc, my daughter likes to sleep on her belly a lot so not sure if it would be a good idea. All opinions welcome x

When ds was in his cot, I put the pillow under the sheet so it didn't move around or anything. Only now he is in his big boy room does he have a pillow.

Can you not get breathable pillows / special toddler pillows?

We just gave James a normal pillow but I can't remember what age? Probably 20 months.

X

Following this as I was wondering when to change to a pillow and duvet set too.

My boys both had pillows from a year old. My youngest has been a tummy sleeper since birth and was absolutely fine x

Like Clairebear we gave them from a year old. I know a doctor who specialises in neonatal and infant respiratory system - Peter Fleming who has done so much research on this and he's always said that from a year it's very safe to use a pillow as by then the toddler would instinctively move away from something blocking their air passages unlike when they're much younger.x

Thanks ladies.

Yeah the pillows I was looking at were the special toddler ones but just been feeling a little apprehensive about it. Silly though really as she would probably love a pillow. Think I will buy the duvet and pillow set next week once I have built her new cot bed and see how she gets on. Any problems I will revert back to sleepbags.

Thought it would be good time to try this now though been as it is summer it doesn't matter too much if she doesn't keep duvet on as she won't get too cold x

I've actually been investigating this today. My daughter is 15 months but her legs are too long for the 6-18 month gro bags. So wondering if I buy the next size up, or move on to duvet and pillow. Have you seen the Grobag bedding set? The pillowcase is stuck to the fitted sheet, and the duvet zips up the side of the bed.
