Maybe it's the pregnancy hormones messing with my brain but I recently have really liked the name Elsa for a girl. I never thought I would even dream of naming a child after a Disney character and I know everyone will associate it with Frozen at first but surely in a few years time the Frozen hype will die down and I do think it is a lovely name. Simple, traditional and not too popular which is exactly what we are looking for.

What do people think? Then there's the risk that due to the film lots of people will use the name and it will become too popular over the next few years.

The only other name my OH and I have agreed on for a girl (we are yet to agree on a boys name) is Alice which I loved until I mentioned it to a friend who instantly said "who the f*#k is Alice" and that has ruined it for me.

I also quite like Edith only because she can be called Edie but I don't think my OH will go for it.

I think Elsa is beautiful! I'm not so sure about Edith x

I've got boys so I haven't even watched Frozen (although know the main characters names) but I think Elsa is lovely

Elsa is a pretty name :) I've not seen frozen though.

I think it depends on how bothered you are by popular names as Elsa is likely to be in the top ten soon. If that doesn't bother you its a lovely name x

I think Elsa is really nice. It might be associated with Frozen for a while but it wont be around forever. x

I think it's pretty, I like Edith/Edie too. We called our little girl Anna, and I didn't think about how people may have thought we were influenced by the film until we watched it, but no one's mentioned it and I haven't even thought about it since!

I think you'd forget the association soon enough but, as others have said, it might gain popularity so you'd have to think about whether that would be an issue?

I agree Elsa is a beautiful name and if you love it you should go for it! However I also think that it might gain more popularity, so if that bothers you this could be a problem... That's the only issue I'd see about the name.

IMO Alice is reaaaaaaally really pretty! I've always loved that name, but my cousin is Alice so it wasn't an option for us. I wouldn't associate it with the song at all, though..

I love the name Alice, I also wouldn't associate it with that song-if I was going to associate it with anything it would be Alice in wonderland, but to be honest-I just think it's a lovely name. That's always my first thought.

Elsa is also very pretty, but yeah I think it will be very popular so if that bothers you then I would avoid it.

Speaking of Disney names, my fiance really likes the name Merida from brave

I like Elsa, but I believe Frozen 2 is being filmed presently, so the hype won't die down anytime soon and inevitably popularity of the name will grow. So if it being unusual is important to you, maybe not the best name choice. Xx

Elsa is lovely but will be on top of the charts for the next few years. I love Edie it was always too of my list. My nana is Edith so if I used it would kind of be after her

Awh I forgot about Frozen 2! Good point! To be honest, I am Irish and my name is an Irish one with Irish spelling which in Ireland, everyone just gets straight away because it's really popular over there. Here in the UK nobody gets it and can't pronounce it. Everybody questions it and asks how it's spelt. Then when I spell it it confuses people even more because the spelling is nothing like the pronunciation. I hate that nobody gets it. I'd love to just say my name once and people remembered it like Sarah or Laura or something. I guess what I'm saying is I would much rather have a name that's over popular than one that nobody gets. I thought I wanted an original name for baby but having an unusual name myself , I wouldn't mind it being popular but I would hate if she was one of three Elsa's in her class. Lol!!

Alice reminds me of Alice in Wonderland too which is partly what made me like it. I hadn't thought of the song till my friend said it.

Oh Donna, I loved Merida too when I watched brave. I personally wouldn't use it though, just a little too unusual for me.

I love Elsa, even without the Disney connection it's a really pretty name. DH and I are big Disney fans and go over to Florida every 12-18months and our baby was conceived there so I was looking at Elsa at one point too but I agree that it is gaining popularity which was an issue for me. Having said that, we're having a boy and I don't like any of the Disney boy names and the only names we do agree on are already in the top 10 names so I don't think we'll get that originality that we're looking for!! x

ETA - just noticed that I'm wearing Minnie Mouse ears in my profile pic. I'd like to add that I am not so much of a fanatic that I wear the clothes and decorate my house Disney style - we just like teh weather and rollercoasters

I really like the name Elsa but like the others have said I didn't use it as I guessed it would become really popular. We named our daughter Annabelle but everyone calls her Belle and no ones made the Disney connection :) xxx

I like it, but personally wouldn't go for it due to popularity.

How about Elsie?

x

Yeah names like Jasmine, Belle, Sofia etc can all be associated with Disney characters but I guess because they were not that unusual before you wouldn't automatically make the connection straight away but Elsa I think was so unusual prior to Frozen that now it is the only connection people make, IMO. Still doesn't take away from it being a lovely name. I like Elsie but not as much.

I can only think of two boy names from Disney both of which are nice: Adam (aka Beast from Beauty and the..) and Flynn from Tangled (did he turn out to have a different name in the end?)

I have picked out (on purpose) disney inspired names.

Ollies middle name is Sebastian. For this one I'm seriously considering Jiminy (as a middle name). :) we've also got Max and Arthur on our lists.

I think Elsa will become more popular but not that popular. Is it on any top 100 list yet? Also I like any disney inspired name haha

alice was on our list too and the OH and my dad (and anyone else I mentioned it to) would sing that song too but I actually like that song so it never bothered me! :)

Very pretty name - my 12 year old daughter is frozen mad and has already annouced if she has kids one day she will call her kids Anna, Kristoff , and olaf! ( my dad and brothers are both called Chris so even that name doesn 't excite me for her future kids! If you don 't mind her being 1 of 5 in her school class go for it, it is pretty x

Oh Donna, I loved Merida too when I watched brave. I personally wouldn't use it though, just a little too unusual for me.

I go on and off it, I think Merry would be cute as a nickname.... but would that be weird as she'd be a girl and it would have the lord of the rings connection lol.

We were talking about names over new years with his parents and Merida came up, his mums reaction was just that she'd never heard of it, did we mean Meredith
