My milk has just came in this evening (day 3) and baby has been on the breast for 3 hours! Is that normal?? Everytime she starts to get slow down and get sleepy I wind her but she starts sucking at my shoulder, crying and looking back on the boob. She's latching well so is def feeding. Is this cluster feeding? Do they cluster feed when your milk comes in? Xx

Oh yes, sounds normal to me. Just go with it darling you are now a fully fledge feeding machine. Make sure you have plenty of snacks and water close by for you. It's really important you keep yourself fed and watered. X

Oh I remember this well. Yes, sounds normal. Is she weeing and her poos changing colour from the tarry meconium to mustardy/yellows?
Like PP said, eat well, drink to thirst and rest x

Hug hang in there LO is just establishing supply. Get some DVDs , snacks, fluids and feed feed feed. It will get better xx

It does sound like she is establishing supply. Look out for urates though, how are the nappies? You should be ablr to hear couple of sucks and swallow when feeding. xxx

Yeah can hear her gulping at the start which must be the foremilk. She stays latched on for about 30 mins each boob. Her nappies changed to the yellowy poo tonight. She has loads of wet nappies and about 3-4 dirty nappies in a 24hr period.

Any tips on settling her after the feeding? She's been exactly the same tonight but I think after 3 hours its more of a comfort thing or could she still be hungry? I honestly think she would feed the whole night non stop if I didn't try to settle her.

Your going a brilliant job, have you tried swaddling? It's the only thong that would settle C xx

The need to suckle may be due to having a bit of colic, sucking eases the discomfort xx

As KK said, try swaddling, do you warm.up her moses basket beforehand?
It can.be a tad cold and she wakes up. Also in.the early days they want cuddles for reassurance too. If you need some rest, give her to OH for some skin to skin and see if she settles

Tapatalking so cant see signatures

How are you this morning?

Sorry only getting a chance to go online now, had a lot of visitors today! Was a long night but midwife reassured me its normal at the start to feed so much. He said she is probably feeding a lot because she had a bit of jaundice and the level had went down today which is great.

Midwife also said if she feeds less than 30 mins on one side but wants to feed again within the hour to put her back on the same breast to make sure she's getting enough hind milk. I think that's what's been the problem but I'll see how tonight goes...

Thanks for all the tips. I do loosely swaddle her but I'll try heating her Moses basket up with a hot water bottle before putting her in. That makes sense.

Well, we've had 2 good nights thanks to ur advice :) Hot water bottle has worked a treat and now I swaddle her during night time feeds so I can put her back in Moses basket without disrupting her. What would I do without this forum?! Xx
