I was loading the dishwasher ten minutes ago, dropped a spoon on the floor, and just as I managed to bend down far enough to grab it, I had the worst pain I've felt since giving birth to my son.

I literally couldn't move...

It lasted for about 6 seconds, then I could get up, and just as I was on my way through to the living room to tell my husband about it, I felt my pants get wet, so I checked them, and they were covered in a red liquid that was really gloopy.

That minute I got an urge to pee, so I ran to the bathroom, and just as I sat down about half a cup full of clear sweet smelling liquid gushed out of me...

I called my midwife straight away, and she said the red gloop would be my mucus plug, and the gush would be my waters... Just as I started to panic, she added that because it was a small amount, it was probably just my "outer sac" that burst.

She is going to come over now to check me over, which is good of her, but I haven't had any pains since the initial one.

Does this mean I'll be going into labour in a matter of hours, or doesn't it really change anything ?

I really didn't expect this to happen, but hey, pregnancy is all about surprises...

Update:

She's just been, and told me I'm 4cm dilated, and around 40% effaced!

Plus, when she was going out the door, I started getting twinges.

Not strong ones, but twinges all the same

Oh, and she said it was just the outer bag that burst, not the main one, so I can still have sex as long as I don't have deep penetration. But she said fingering or using the vibrator would be a safer option.
