ok, so my OH has just got a new job working 12-8pm but doesn't necessarily get home til about 10pm some nights. He rang me to ask me when i'm seeing MW next so told him the 3 next major dates that i could do with him having the day off. Now, he is supposed to work a 5 day week - as he works a Sat he is supposed to have a day off in the week but he has chosen to work his day off every week as we do need the money...

So having told him the 3 major dates etc, i told him that i have to see MW every fortnight after 18th Aug for Ante-natal classes etc.

To which his response was - "you'll have to get the bus to those then because I cannot take that amount of time off work"

I understand this etc but aren't these classes where mother-to-be and father-to-be learn how to deal with me giving birth etc? He should be there with me shouldn't he?

What are your views on this? And what actually goes on with the classes? I'm probably stressing out over nothing but would be usefull to know exactly when he really should be there with me so that I can at least go to the earlier ones on my own?

Thanks in advance :) xx

Its up to you both really.

My OH came to the antenatal classes and although he thought they were really useful, i wouldn't say he needed to be there. You can tell him everything and maybe get him to write down things he wants to know, so you can find out for him.

We learned about what happens in labour, pain relief, breathing, complications, post labour, really interesting, but could all be learned from a book. I enjoyed the social aspect, meeting others in your area who will have their babies around the same time, and knowing that my questions werent stupid questions.

My friend didnt want her OH there and they did fine without them.

so as usual i'm stressing over nothing lol - i guess he can read a book on it then lol - he's good at reading ;-) thanks Zazu :) xx

My DH wont be around to come to any of the appointments after the scan on friday. Its a bit of a shame but I reckon I can fill him in on the important stuff. :)

I think its wrong that women are allowed paid time off to go to ante natal classes yet their OH's - so often your birth companion - are not, it's all down to how nice and understanding their employer is.
