OH and birth

Misslarue said:
My OH has just informed me that he doesn't know if he will look 'down there' when I'm in labour. Apparently he is scared that he will not see my lady bits in the same sexual way, once he sees our son coming out of it and it will put him off sex forever
Is this normal?? Did anyone else's OH say/do/feel this??

my OH is feeling pretty much the same way, just tell him that he will have more important things to worry about than if your lady bits will look the same...... he wont even think about it when your in labour

My Hubby won't even have sex any more as he is worried about hitting the babies head :( ( I did tell him that he wasn't that well endowed!! )

But he has got squemish looking at my lady parts as they are swollen so I am really not sure how good he will be in the actual room!!

I guess we won't know until it is actually happeneing.... I think as long as he is there to hold my hand so that I am not alone thats all I will ask for.

My OH is a really good birth partner and really supportive but he won't go 'down there' thank god cos i don't want him too! He won't even cut the cord but i don't mind. He is there for the bits i need him to do and to be honest i wouldn't like to see down there either so i don't blame him.

I don't mind my OH not wanting to be down there either...I asked him if he wanted to cut the cord ..he nearly died at the thought of it LOL..I don't worry that him not seeing the baby passing through a very stretched vagina is gonna have any impact on his ability to be a farther am just glad he is there for me.

and like you say i wouldn't wanna look either LOL

Some interesting points - especially by Rosebay. Obviously you have to work out whats right for you as a couple, and it sounds like you worked out a good compromise. Tbh it hasn't even occurred to me that Ian wouldn't want to be there at the birth - to the extent I was surprised when he first said he didn't want to cut the cord. I was a bit disappointed, but figured it was up to him. At our parentcraft classes he then hesitated and said he wants to. We were talking about it the other day, and he's like me, he really just wants what's best for the baby, which I can understand. I think he also thinks (like me) that although we can make plans for the birth, neither of us know exactly what will happen so it's not worth trying to control something that can't be. So I'm hoping he will be there and it all goes well, but really we both just want our baby out safely.

A few people my OH has spoken to (not his good friends :| ) have said don't look it will put you off sex for life, which I find really pethetic!

Paul is a very supportive and passionate person, and has been thru an awfull lot with me throughout this pregnancy, lol hes seen some shocking things bless him and has stuck by me all the way thru.

I know he will be really supportive and is already feeling upset about how much pain I will be in  , Hes not sure about looking down there but I know he will and it will be an amazing experience for him to see the birth of his baby girl :D

I think all DH's SHOULD be made to look down there. I mean hell, it's not like it's THEM going through all that pain! If we have to go through all that, the least they can do is watch!

actually my DH is absolutely fine about watching and being there. He isn't squeamish in the slightest. My only complaint was that whilst I was giving birth to Lydia he fell asleep!! I woke him up by vomiting, but he was too sleepy to fetch me a sick-bowl so my mam had to do it! Tsk, men!

OH informed me he wants to see baby be born in all its glory!!

I have told him under NO un certain terms I want him at my shoulders and not my lady bits, the thought of him watching all the stretching makes me feel queasy!!!

He is so squeamish anyway, I reckon he will miss most of it as he will of fainted into a pool on the floor :rotfl:

My OH is quite happy to be there during the birth but firmly at shoulder level which is fine by me as I want him up there as well!!

He said he doensnt wanna cut the cord either, which if he doesnt wanna its fine by me, but who knows how they will change when there actually ''in the moment''

I dont really want him down there in the birth (just the througt of it!) but im sure at the time I wont care, however in the moment Ill just let him do what he wants I think

I agreed with Vicki - it'll take a lot of put most guys off of sex and even if they do go down the "business end" once their get the horn on they'll soon forget what they've seen!!!

Mind you saying that i'm not sure I want him seeing my like that........I'm not sure I really want to have that much idea myself as to what is going on with my lady bits!!!

I told my hubby about this thread...He said he had read it in a fatherhood book i bought him ages ago advising men not to go down there the reason ...pride...the author said once you have seen how big it can stretch then you will always feel inadequate LOL

My DH thought is was excellent being there and watching Isabella's head crowning. What he thought was really funny was my belly button was getting bigger every time I was pushing he thought it was going to go pop!!!
