He weighs more than my OH!

His mom blames doctors and says she can't stop him raiding the fridge. Stuff like this drives me mad...he's 8! Maybe stop BUYING the food so he CAN'T get it out of the fridge?
He'll be taken into care if he doesn't lose weight, do you think this is right?

otherwise y dont they put all these skinny teenagers who want to be a size 0 into care?

i agree! if the tempatation isn't there, he won't have! problem is it is easier to cave into his demands.

According to Connor's mother, he spends long hours sitting at his computer and eats junk food all day long. He loves curries, sausage sandwiches, biscuits and burgers and he eats chips or fries with all his meals

how about swapping the chips for a salad?!

put his pc on a timer... only allowed on it for set times in the day.

He doesn't have an illness as far as I know because they wouldn't give him appetite supressants.

Girls who want to be a size 0 is different, I think, you can be skinny AND healthy, although I agree with the media hype etc girls are getting an unrealistic body image, that isn't child abuse, but letting a child get to 14 stone like that is child abuse in my opinion. Someone must be buying him the food, it's not like he's 16 and has his own money to spend at the chip shop.

We were talking about this earlier. I think its disgraceful. I can't believe the stupid mother is blaming everyone else apart from herself. Maybe he should be taken to a clinic or equivalent to get him to lose weight but the mother/father need help too, learn how to shop & cook healthy foods.

Another case of the blame culture in the uk at the moment. No one takes any responsibility for their actions.
The mum is to blame, feeding her child that crap, she ought to feel ashamed of herself. She will outlive her son!

Whatever happened to NO!!!

My cousins were / are obese. Their mum blamed it on all sorts of things - slow metabolism, never feeling full, it's just puppy fat........., but in the end it boils down to eating too much of the wrong stuff and not excercising enough. My younger cousin had her first heart attack aged 21 - I vowed that day my own kids would NEVER be obese.

I think that as a parent you have a responsiblity for the health of your children. If I saw that my child was gaining too much weight I would change the way we all eat - go walking, cycling, swimming more etc.

Maybe the mother needs educating rather than the boy being taken into care - I don't know its a hard one isn't it. It will be interesting too watch.

i totally agree that this boy is big, but kieron was massive as a child and he didnt seem to eat that much and i wouldnt consider myself a bad mother but when i look at him now at 15 he is a totally differnt lad and i have done nothing different he just got into more sport and pe when he went to secondary school.i did take him swimming and we were out all the time when he was small so i dont think things are as black and white as they sometimes look

i think its absolutely disgraceful, and to top it all off, that lads mum is my grandads sisters daughter

i do agree its child abuse, his mother wants locking up for letting him get like that, he will be dead before he is 15 if something isnt done

I agree I mean he must have started off eating crap at an early age to get to 14 stone by the age of 8 and where would he get it from if not the parents?! I dont think he should be taken into care but maybe for the family to have a social worker and a very stern talking to and a dietician )im guessing he has this) to help get him back into shape...poor child...they obviously let him sit on the computer at all hours and eat that food, he is 8 for gods sake!! he should be encouraged to play outside with friends and be given proper dinners at the appropriate times, I think its terrible... Alan is 29 and this 8 year old is 4 stone heavier than him!

it did say on trevor mcdonald that he was having tests to see if its his hormones.

I do think the type of feed he is eating is to blame but also got the feeling how much taller he is than the other 8 years olds there is a bit more to it...not that she helps.

If she was really bothered she wouldn't cook him the junk food he ate ,she wouldn't even keep it in the house...

When we grew up we had to eat what we were given and was given proper food or go hungry..he'd soon learn eat proper food or go hungry.

He is a child, it is his mothers responsibilty to care for him and make sure he is healthy and happy, SHE has let him down so terribly!

I dont think he should be taken into care though, maybe she is just really thick and thought it was ok to feed him junk.

I feel that poor boy, he must be so depressed and isolated, taking him away from his mummy, no matter how stupid she is, would just make things worse for him, but they need some kind of assistance to change his diet.

As for the comments on body image with young girls today, I totally agree.

Girls/women have always been made to feel pressured to be beautiful and thin by the media and thier peers, but this size 0 thing is ridiculous. Isnt it a size 6 in UK measurements? Thats discustingly skinny unless your only 4ft tall! How anyone can think thats beautiful is beyond me.

the thing is that if it was a mother starving a child to death he would be taken out of that situation no questions asked but cos she feeding him to death its caused a controversy, to me theres no difference.
