Hey everyone

Just wondered if you watch OBEM with your lovely OH's?
Or would you dare not ask them?
Or do they just outright say no to watching it?
Or do they watch it and love it/hate it?

It would be interesting to hear your responses... :)

OOOO, this is a goody :)

I watch it and love it and on Tuesday I made hubby watch it with me (we record it) and although if he had the choice he would watch Top Gear he does enjoy it when I make him. I think he appreciates the stories the most and since we had our LO and it was an emergency c-section he is preparing himself for a natural birth this time round. I always wanted a completely drug free birth and I hope this time round I get to feel it all. Hubby is good as gold and I watch his silly programs with him as well so what is fair is fair.

How about you all???

I love it. My OH has watched it. Especially when I was expecting - I was slightly addicted. If I'm downstairs and it's on he will watch it. But I usually have my bath and go to bed to watch it.xx

I love it! It's the only thing I actually watch at the same time it's on! My Sky box has worked hard these last 5 years or so! Lol! Hubby is usually watching football or something like that, and he outright would say no if I asked him to watch it!

I have lots recorded on my planner but not got round to watching them yet. I won't be asking my OH to watch it though, for fear of scaring him off the idea. I really do think he has no idea what he is letting himself into and is rather keep it that way, till it's too late to change our minds lol!!!

I love it (although it scares me slightly lol) but my oh doesnt watch it. Even though he wants to start a family, obem just doesnt interest him (to be honest I just think hes squeemish!!) He usually watches tv upstairs!!

Thanks everyone, for your replies!!
Its so interesting to read these.... :yay:

I watch is every week (maybe delayed by a day or so if we are busy on the Monday evening) but Ive also watched every other single episode within the last year or so, I love them!

As for my OH.... well he has watched a couple (I have practically forced him!) and he says they are boring, gross and not interesting - fair enough, as they probably are to him, I dont think men can really relate to it (unless they have experienced it before), whereas us girlies can, with our raging hormones and broodiness!

I feel like Im being a bit sneaky but when I make him watch them, I feel this is educating him - haha - (he currently has none of his own, and has never been around babies, let alone seeing any be born) so Im thinking the more he watches them, the more used to seeing women in labour he will be and Im hoping this will prepare him for when we have ours - Otherwise Id be quite happy watching them on my own! haha :)

Hey Vixx and ladies

I wasn't sure how to answer to your query but now I know!...I was just watching OBEM and I have always raved about it to my o/h (I always well up/cry at the new babies) but he's never really shown an interest. Tonight however he felt compelled to see - the disabled lady having an elective c section. ..and he just looked horrified, he asked me if I had actually seen what happens during a c section (yes) and I tried to reassure him that, yes it's major surgery and clinical/operating roomy but this was all done in a really controlled calm manor..and in that way a lot easier than our time with our first baby before (emergency c section).

He's not convinced girls! He scuttled off to bed looking pale, perhaps too soon with the graphic-ness for my guy :/ I did try to salvage it by saying maybe he should see a totally natural/no problems birth - NOPE thanks! - haha bless him I feel bad now. I have horrified my partner! Oooops

p.p.s

I'm about to watch the Amanda Holden Dispatches (Ch4) if you manage to catch it let me know what you think x

I never miss one! Hubby watched a few with me as well :)

Hi Stacey,

You make me laugh. :rotfl: I also had an emergency c-section the first time with hubby by my side and he told me that the scary and also reassuring part was when he saw the amount of staff in the room. He was actually trying to sneak a peak at the cutting part but was promptly told off :shakehead: by the nurses who said to him we don't want to have 2 people to take care of (hinting at him fainting at the sight) :faint: I think you did the right thing making him watch as he may be funny about it now but he is already more prepared, he will need some time to process the information but he will be fine. I am hoping very much that this time I get the natural birth I wanted last time but I decided not to write a "birth plan" (what a joke) and just take it as it comes.

I know what you mean about being more broody, every time I watch the thing I am thinking I can't wait to see another little squishy head again. They are so cute when their head is deformed still from the birth.

Ladies I love reading your responses to this and Stacey, I think it was good that he has now seen that, scary though it is they need to be made aware of these things, and I think the more we can prepare them now the easier it might be for them at the time if anything does go wrong! Dont get me wrong I hope and pray nothing goes wrong for anyone and it would still be scary all the same but I see it as education for my OH for sure, especially as he is totally new to this!! haha (poor sod)

I have been watching the new series with my oh. I think its been really good for him and he agrees as he was really squeamish before and has now got used to it. Its makes us both excited to meet baby now xxx

I often watch it while hubby is in the room, and he catches bits of it in between stuff on the computer......my 4 year old daughter on the other hand loves it and wants to watch more when it finishes, lol.

We only watched it whilst I was expecting. The series we watched was filmed at Leeds and since I was going to be giving birth there (and was asked to be on the show, but said a big NO!), we took an extra interest.

It was lovely watching the series after I gave birth and getting to see the room where I gave birth and my midwife.

Ohhh SRob, why did you say no?? I was wondering the other day about this actually whether anybody on this site was on OBEM and now I know you were my chance and you blew it... :shakehead: But seriously, it must've been cool being asked and seeing the place on TV. :)

I think that was the worst one he could have watched!! Even I was a bit pale after watching that! She was very brave!

Haha I know poor thing, I've put him right off watching it now! I should've shown him the one with the fashionistas...her doing her hair in her designer bikini 'I'm just going to not think about pain' water birth...she made it look so easy! Great couple :D x
