I'm thinking ahead a little here, but I'll be going back to work part time when baby is around 8 months old. However, I don't know the exact date yet as I'll be looking for a new job as my current one won't have me part time.

Do you have to register in advance with a nursery or can you just call up and get LO into one a few days before you need it? If you need to register in advance, how far in advance (I live in East London if that makes a difference..)?

Thanks x

I am not sure, but I think you can do it not long before. Obviosly, the sooner you apply for the place, the more chances are that you will get in a good one.

I would just start looking around the ones you like the look of when the bubba is born. Make sure you compare not less then 3 of them

i think it really depends on day times etc
with Brays at first i only wanted one day and was easy as to which day so i got him in bout 1 month before i went back to work

We have been looking at nurseries recently - visited 8 locally and there is only 1 I would feel happy leaving Jenna in when I go back to work part-time in Sept. We are now on the waiting list for that nursery, so wont know until end of July if we have a place or not. On the other hand, one of the other nurseries I went to (one of the Bright Start ones) had loads of places available at any time.

I think it depends on the reputations and quality of the nursery. Hopefully being in the city means you will have a much bigger choice than we did (small town). Make sure you go to visit several, and check Ofsted for their reports (I know this is not the bee all & end all, but it helps give an indication). You have to be 150% happy to leave your child there so go visit as many as you can wld be my advice.

I have my baby booked in for next march already I needed full time because my work wont have me back here part time and need the money but nursery is already booked up for mondays and tuesdays until next july which messes me up totally, she said they have a waiting list for next 18 months at the moment. Nurseries have alot less baby places then over 2 years old places so I would book up as early as you can although it is so hard to try and say for definate what you will be doing in a years time

I had Ryan booked in for this March as of last August, and they said that was way too much noticed but booked us in anyway (ended up losing our booking though and now I have crap days with them, grr). I looked around a couple of weeks ago for nurseries (to change days) and to start in a couple of weeks time from then, and 2 nurseries still had places.
I guess it depends on the nurseries and the area. When I was asking with a fortnights notice, I went to 4 nurseries - 2 were fully booked until next year, 1 was available but on silly days, and 1 was available anytime but more expensive than the others.

Have a look round whenever, and if there are certain ones you like check with them how busy they tend to get and if they have waiting lists.

Thanks everyone - I think I'll call a few when I go on maternity leave, will give me something to do xx

i left mine to last min as i was in denial i was going to ahve to leave amber anyway lol

we looked at 4 and went with the one we preferred helped that my niece went there for 2 years and loved it...and similarly so far amber is loving it.

Luckily they could squeeze us in with 2 weeks notice as one was finishing....phew!
