So today a breastfeeding nurse came to support me with Harry's troubles latching on. The session did nt go as I thought. Basically after chatting and watching him try to feed she as good as told me I may as well give up trying as both of us are getting too stressed. She doesn't think I have a good milk supply either. I nw have to make a decision, do I persevere and keep trying him at the breast? O I continue to express but its starting to rule my life. I can't go anywhere or do anything longer than 3 hours or do I go for formula? I'm totally gutted xxx

if LO isn't latching properly your milk supply is not going to be as good as it could be.... why does she think you are getting stressed? are you still under the care of MW or HV? have you got a baby cafe near to you that you could try.... at the end of the day you have to make a decision that is right for you, I am surprised at the advice you were offered though. I am on my way out, but am a trained peer supporter so will help if I can, I will check this thread when I am back and sorted :hugs:

Lo was getting stressed when she was here and he was crying his eyes up so she could see I was getting stressed from that. She thinks we had to many barriers to feeding eg he was 8 weeks prem, he had tongue tie, jaundice and he's been on bottles so is used to them now. Do you think there is still a chance?xx

I am sorry to hear she wasn't as helpful as she should have been.
Of course there is a chanc of Breastfeeding.
However much you bfeed is going to be of benefit to your baby. You seem pretty determined to me :)

Maybe contact a la Leche league leader? They are brilliant at helping mums bfeed.very knowledgeable too.

Best wishes :)

if you are determined there is always a chance... it is about finding the right support to you, one of my friends Lo was prem and she has breastfed.
one of the most effective ways of boosting supply is skin to skin, choose times that he is relaxed, so may be an hour or so after a feed, quiet warm room, you bare all, LO down to nappy, no distraction, just let him explore you, maybe at bath time too... you jump in with him.
I found one or two of my HV team better then the MW at breat feeding, and they were involved with baby cafe, google it, it is a national service, although coverage is random, la leche league are good and the NCT might have groups/contacts locally too.... there are some good facebook sites too specifically set up to support bf so it might be worth exploring those....
Has the tongue tie been snipped?
am sure there is lots more I can say, but it might be worth exploring those avenues first :flower:

Hun if you have the will to breast feed there is a way! C had Tongue tie and the hospital/MWs/HVs/GP told me I should give up. I didn't it took me seven weeks to get C's tue sniped- we ended up going private because nobody would listen and I then used shields.

Shields saved a lot if heart ache and they helped me keep on at it. I would recommend them to anyone struggling.

NCT baby Cafe's are amazing and the counsellors helped so much. Do you have a Baby Cafe in your area?

You supply is only low because of latching issues. Supple is linked to demand.
Loads of skin to skin, express whenever you can and get LO checked to see if the tie has ceased up again. Please look for the neatest support group.

Big hug, it's tough but you can do this. Xx

'Dispelling breast feeding myths' is a brilliant FB support group xx

Thanks ladies. There is a babe cafe not far from me according to the net. What happens at these? His tongue tie was snipped but I'm not convinced it was snipped far enough xxx

It's a breast feeding support group hun. You get offered a nice drink and cake as soon as you walk through the door, there are other mums breast feeding, there may be others who have had issues with Tongue tie who you could talk to. There is also a NCT BFing counsellor.... Now they are brilliant, she may ask to watch a feed and she may check babies Tongue again. If you have someone you would like to take along for support ie. Mum/sister/friend then they are welcome too xx

Going to the baby cafe was one of the best things I did for our BF journey, when ever I saw anyone with 'issues' specifically' T would always do what he was supposed to so I was sent away with things are going fine.... at the group I attended each week and they got to know us and there were mums with a vast range of experiences, different groups arset up differently, ours aren't linked to the NCT (although this might change) but with the HV/Childrens centres and a breastfeeding consultant is linked to these :flower:

So I went to another breastfeeding clinic today and it turns out Harry is still tongue tied! Hence the issues with latching on xx

Bless you! Firstly well done for persevering! Have you been referred to get it sniped again? Xx

I am so pleased you have been. What's the plan? X

It's brilliant you are persevering with what you want to do. Good on you hun x

Yep we are being referred again to hope it works this time!xxx

Kate I am so glad you did not get disheartened by the so called help from the nurse who came to see you! They do say a mother always knows and in your case it is true.

I hope they give you all the support you and little one need to carry on your feeding journey.
