Hi! I'm getting a little anxious about baby arriving now, so thought I'd ask you lot if I am making any sense :)

Well, I rea that if you express from very early on, you can really help your milk supply as you will always produce enough. I'm all fe doing this, but how do you go about it? Omwould you express then feed the baby or express in the morning regardless of when baby wants a feed? Can you run out? Like I mean can I express and still have enough for her in the breasts?

And as far as routine goes, what do you guys do in terms of during the day? Do you just pop them to sleep when they are ready in whatever they are wearing? And then At night do the bath and dressed, feed then bed routine? I'm just trying to get an idea of what I should be doing lol. I guess I just don't want to have a difficult baby and will try and establish what I can early on so I prevent any bad habits. X

I express after her last feed at night and usually get about 3oz. im not making much milk Atm so don't want to express and risk Tegan not getting enough. sleep wise in the day she goes to sleep in whatever she is wearing whenever she wants, she doesn't have a routine in the day. i feed her then bath at 7.30pm then i get her dressed feed her again, wind her then pop her in her moses basket and she's asleep by 9pm xx

noa sleeps in whatever hes wearin daytime. i would say try teach your lo the different between day n night from the start.. noa never sleeps in the bedroom during the day and nighttime is always dark n quiet, daytime light n noisy. i try n walk noa about 1ish everyday n then he sleeps for about 4 hours. xx

I express after a feed to ensure alex gets enough earlier i was expressing as my boobs were aching so much then giving alex the bottle and ended up?full again. Now he only has a bottle if we r out mybe once a week. As for routine alex is only 4 weeks old so we still go with the flow. At the mo he wakes 6/7 ish we change him and then give him a feed and he goes down for an hour, this allows me to get up and get ready for the day and tidy round do washing etc when he wakes change him if needed but always change his xlothes and give hin bath if needed as he loves them. He has a feed bout 10-1030 ish then stays awake and either plays on mat or bouncychair then he will want another feed bout 1 and then sleeps til 4 has another feed then seeps til 7 then he has bath a feed and stys awake til 9 or 10 naps til bout midnght has a feed then sleeps til fol morn x

I agree with evelina, teach them day and night straight away. Day time, charley naps in what he's wearing downstairs in his swing. He naps every hour and half and I'll keep everything light and noisy then night time is low light fed upstairs put straight into cot!
Can't help with the breastfeeding though x x

Unless you regularly need to feed from bottles there's no need to express all the time - it's a good idea from quite early on to give them a bottle every few days to make sure they're ok with it if you're out, but I mean there's no reason why you need to express to make sure that you have enough milk - your body adjusts to produce as much as your baby needs after the first few weeks, and your baby feeding stimulates milk production far more than a pump does (obviously if you're pumping a bit extra every day and putting it in the freezer your body will adjust to make that little bit extra, but your supply will be fine without pumping)

Totally agree with what everyone else has said on the night and day too :) x

Thanks guys :) I just read a book and this is what I got from it basically. Idling to express more for flexibility, like solely breastfeed but if I need to pop out or for whatever reason, I can give her a bottle of expressed milk.

Does anyone wake their babies for a feed during the day?? Just out of interest? The book gives you a 3 hourly routine basically feed, nappy, Sleep sort of thing, and waking them for their next feed after 3 hours from the beginning of their last feed. Can't decide if this is a really stupid idea or not? X

I have NEVER woken my babies for whatever reason lolol. Grab those precious moments whilst you can haha

I fully agree with that it was some sort of routine thing for waking them to feed, I am glad you guys have said that as I thought that was a bit of a stupid thing to do! X

Establishing night from day is a must for me too. I just let emily play and as SOON as she starts to suck her thumb or gets grumpy I put her in her pram in the kitchen. It means she can be comfy and sleep as long as she wants :-) I would never wake her up!

My SIL follows a routine religiously and none of her kids are allowed to fall asleep in her arms, have more than a certain time playing with toys etc...STUPID!!

Good luck Hun, it's sooo exciting getting ready :-) xxx

i wake noa if hes still asleep after 5 ish in the afternoon. then he have normally sleept since 1. I do cuz thats when i start my feeding maraton so he sleeps better at night!

I woke Campbell for his feeds! haha. Going against all of you. He never cried and settled back very well after. Depends how contect baby is naturally I guess. Do what feels right x

Thanks, just don't know what to do or think lol theirs so much conflicting evidence and stuff, I generally wouldn't have a clue! X

I tried waking Lizzie up for feeds (on midwife's advice) but it made her so angry that she then wouldn't go on the boob at all and would fall asleep after fighting against me. Tried this for 2 days and she didn't get many proper feeds at all so went back to feeding on demand - she's much happier and I'm not too worried if she goes ages before a feed - if she's that hungry she'll wake up :)
