Well girls, this is the first time I've posted in this section.I'm just home from my first docs appointment. What a waste of time!Waited 50 mins and then got a totally clueless doctor!Told her we had been trying for over a year and that I was 35 and had 2 kids from my 1st marriage both conceived with no probs. She asked if my fiance had any kids which he hasn't.She then said "Sounds like its his fault then".
She didn't know what to do next as she had never come accross this problem!Had to go and ask doc in next room!I asked if she needed to take blood from me and she didn't know whether she had to do it or just refer us straight to a specialist. In the end she said she would write a letter to the specialist and I would hear direct from him in due course.
Sorry to rant but just wasn't what I was expecting!:wall2:

I'm sorry it wasn't more helpful for you x what an awful thing for her to say! Lots of things can affect fertility and until the specialist does tests there'll be no definate answers as to whether it's your fertility or his! How rude! x big hugs babe hope the specialist is more help x

sounds like a right twat of a dr! but on the positive sinde from someone who has had to beg to be refered befor your going to see a secialist sooner rather than later who will be in a much better position to tell you whats going on id not be seeing that gp again tho!

Sounds like a totally clueless GP!! Don't worry hun, you'll get all your blood work done at the hospital when you see the consultant, along with any scans etc you need and your OH will have his tests done there too. My GP only referred us to our hospital to see the fertility consultant and didn't do any tests there and then, but you could do without the tactless GP

how rude and tactless!!!! I cant believe it. At least she has referred you anyway and you wont have to deal with her throughout. In my experience the specialists will sort out all the tests you need for both you and your other half. Hope everything goes well for you xx

Hi my doc didnt have a clue really either and just referred us to a specialist. It sounds like it could be your OH but not necessarily. They will do all relevant tests for you good luck hun xxxx

How rude!!
Sorry to hear you went through that, her response wasn't very professional :(
I'd say if you don't hear anything in a couple of weeks phone up the doctors to check that she definately wrote that referall letter. Chase it all up.
And in the meantime I'll have my fingers crossed that you get seen by the specialist very quickly or that you find out you are pregnant :p x

Can anyone tell me what it is like to get a hysterosalpingogram (xray of the uterus and fallopian tubes)?

Is this the one where you have to ring them when you start your period as they have to do it at a certain time? If so I was booked in for this and was waiting to have it done but we conceived that month so never had it in the end. From what I remember them telling me it isn't painful but you might have some slight bleeding afterwards xx

:shakehead: How annoying I had similar experience when I first went to the GP so I went back for second opinion and the other GP said he wasn't sure why he hadn't ordered some more tests.

If I was you hun I would go back and perhaps see a different GP in the practice can you do that? and ask for your OH to be tested at least you can be having this done while waiting to see the specialist. They may also do bloods etc it all goes on one record for the gynae anyway

Ive had a hystersalpingogram. They do it after you have had a period to make sure you are not pregnant but cant do it while you are bleeding.

The insert a tube up inside you and through that they put a dye that shows up on the x-rays so they can make sure there are no blockages in your tubes. When they are doing it it feels like rather bad period pains as obviously you have the dye running through your tubes but pretty much as soon as theyve stopped that stops as well. Its not overly pleasant but its nothing to worry about either, and it takes just a few minutes.

Hope ive helped xx

Thats set my mind at ease.Got bloods back and I've got plenty of eggs!Going for 21day blood test tomorrow.OH still to do his bit.Our hospital only does sperm tests between half past 8 and 9 on a tuesday and wednesday morning! We are 2 and a half hours from the hospital so it will be an early start for him!

Hey Peachypam

I had this done a HSG for short. Firstly they didn't tell me I needed to call up on the first day of my period to book it! So make sure you do this  it has to be done after you've finished bleeding and before you ov so they can make sure its safe!

I was absolutely dreading it but I didn't feel a thing they put a really fine tube into your cervix (honestly you can't feel it) and then x-ray you you have to roll one side to the other and that it all done. Some of the ladies have got their results straight away but they wouldn't tell me as said they had to look in detail later on but fortunately it was all good

For sperm analysis I think they need it within an hour so your OH may have to book a room at the hospital?? :oooo:

Good luck hun
