Hi,

I'm very new to this so please excuse my moutain of stupid questions!

My husband and I want to start TTCing around April (as my pills run out in Feb). I was going to get some OPK kits just so we would know when the best to to TTC would be. I was wondering if you could help me with a few things...

Should I start taking folic acid now? If so is their a particular brand that I should get?

What are the best OKP kits to get?

Should I get a mixture of cheap tests and disgital tests or just stick to the one kind?

I've started a fitness regime to get rid of my festive fat (I'm 5'6" and 9 st 8 and I just want to get back to my 9st 4lbs and strethen my core muscles prior to TTC). Are there any particular things I should be doing to get my body into optimum TTC condition?

Should my husband be taking any supplements/doing anything special to prepare himself?

And just to be nosey... have you told any of your friends/family that you are TTCing?

:D

Hello and welcome! No such thing as a stupid question. :D

Defintely start taking folic acid now, yes, as well as a multi-vit in general. Opinions vary about brands, but if you get a good multi-vit (and I'm mean one from a health store, not one from boots or superdrug) that is for women of child-bearing age, it should have the correct dosage of folic acid in it already (400mg).

Lots of people on here just use the cheapie ebay opks, but some of us have had trouble with them, and from what I hear, the ClearBlue ones are supposed to work really well.

If you are going to be poas all the time, get some ebay cheapies, and when you get a positive with those, then check on a more expensive version.

Eat a proper diet to make sure you're getting all the nutrients you can do, drink lots of water (at LEAST 2 litres a day), cut out caffeine altogether if you can (unfortunately this means switching to decaf tea, too), and start doing kegels daily if you don't already as this will tone up the muscles down there.

Your hubby would do well to follow your good diet and take a good multi-vit for men as well so he's got nice, strong swimmers.

As for the nosey bit...some people know, but my immediate family doesn't because my kinesiologist told me not to try to conceive until March to let my body recover after my m/c in September and I'm ignoring his advice like the bad girl I am. I just don't want to get yelled at!

 Hi and welcome

I can not really add any more to what Melissa has already said

 hello! i am new too, i'm not even actively TTC til february but i'm very keen i'm ALWAYS in here

iv never done it before (daughter and mc were unplanned) so i dont have much advice i still dont know what OPK is.

i buy cheap 89p tests from home bargains, if i ever got a BFP on one of them i'd buy a clearblue to confirm.

iv told all my friends and my sisters i am TTC, but not my parents  they would just go on at me (well my mum would, LOL) like i am fifteen still

idk about folic acid but i take multibionta every day anyway always have done and iv checked it and it contains it so i dont need to think about that.

welcome and good luck!

Arrh thanx for the advice girls!

I think I will pop out tomorrow and get my self some multi-vitamins!

I'm sure I I'll be on here loads bugging you all!

Can I ask how you get the TTC tickers ( the ones that say x amout of days until we TTC) and also the nice flashing cartoon things?

I'm not sure about the graphics (if you find one of someone'e else's, try and click on it and it can take you to the site), but most of the 'CD' tickers are from fertility friend, which brings me to my next point (I'm a broken record about this)...

If you don't already, you should definitely consider charting as it will give you a great idea of what your body is up to and will dramatically increase your chances of conceiving more quickly. http://www.fertilityfriend.com

If you come to the January Chartstalkers thread, you'll see a bunch of our charts and get an idea of how it's done. We're all very willing to help you learn how as well!

Everyone's already said what I would have said but wanted to say hi and welcome

My ticker is from www.lilypie.com by the way.

Definitely second the folic acid. Start now!!! 400 micrograms a day. I don't think it matters what brand you buy (I have a mixture between GP prescribed and boots own) as long as it has that dose. Folic acid is folic acid wherever you get it. Although if you're going to take multivits make sure you get pregnancy or TTC ones (i.e. not too much vit A etc).

Best of luck!!!

Hello and welcome

My ov kits are from babymad but you can also get them off ebay. I got 50 for £10!! They're great value and I've always had no problem reading them. Don't worry, we'll soon turn you into a pee on a stick (poas) addict like the rest of us!! :rotfl:

Good luck with ttc

good luck with ttc. folic acid and a good multivit are important and healthy eating obviously.

also, don't forget the pill takes a while to leave your system so don't get upset if you don't fall straight away if you take them right up till trying.

lots of luck for ttc

 welcome!

only other thing i can think of is don't expect your body to be back to normal as soon as you stop taking your pills- you may be lucky and everything falls back in to place or it may take some time. On average it takes 6-12 months for your cycles to get back to normal and you may even go a few months before a period to begin with! My advice would be to stop taking your pill at the end of this packet so as to give your body as much time as poss! I didn't realise this when we started ttc and was very depressed when i didn't get a period for 102 days- i convinced myself i was infertile!!! since then cycles have been fairly long.
other than that, good luck and have fun trying!!
xx

Erm - I think I was here first so techincally doesn't that mean you're stalking me.....?
