Hi ladies,

my husband and I have just found out after a long 18months that he has low sperm count of 4 million. And have been told that it means we have under 2% chance of natural conception.
has anyone on here been told similar or had the same result and told something different?

Feeling really sad about it all as I am sure you all are being on this thread x

Awwww don't be sad hun. I mean I understand how hard this must be hear but you still have options with assisted conception too x

Hi there, I'm sorry to hear of your difficulties, it must have come as a shock to you both. I just thought I would let you know that some years ago when I had a different partner we were also told that his sperm count was low, around 5 million I think, and that IVF would be our only option.

However after doing some research and reading the Marilyn Glenville book on how to change your diet, take the right vitamins etc, both of us began following her recommendations and a few months later when my partner had a retest his sperm count had increased dramatically and was then in the normal range.

Unfortunately we didn't stay together but I know that he went on to conceive a child naturally when he met somebody else so I really think it's worth doing all you can to get your body into optimum health before going down the IVF route.

Here is a link to the book if you are interested

Good luck with everything.

Sarah xx

It is so overwhelming when you get this kind of news. I do think there are things that can be done to improve count as SR35 says. My OH had low motility so put him on wellman conception vits and the motility went from low to the very top end of normal. His count also improved quite a bit, I hope you're feeling a little better today xx

Hi Hon
I'm sorry to hear what your going through, like the girls say it is a shock but don't loose hope lots of things can be done to help improve and support the numbers and quality

We have a number issue and are booked for ivf as that's our only option but it's not the same for everyone and there are loads of ladies on here who have gone on to have bfps :-)

X x

thanks girls and thank you SR35 I definitely will have a look at thay book.

when are you hoping to start ivf Sarah? xx

Hopefully Oct/Nov for us, it's tough someone telling you that it's not going to happen the "normal" way but hey that's the cards we have & fingers crossed it's all positive :-)

Is your oh on any supplements? X

Hi huni. Me and my OH tried for 18month for out DD. He had a low count of less than 5 million and a mobility of 20%, it also didn't help that on top of that, It was confirmed I didn't ovulate.
My DD will be 3 in November and I'm currently 37 weeks pregnant with a little boy, without any fertility treatment for both. We where prescribed clomid when trying for DD but the month was due to start the medication I got my BFP. This pregnancy was a not try not prevent pregnancy so a bit of a shock it happened!
My OH took wellman tablets and also zinc. He would wear loose boxers and when in house wear loose clothing like shorts or tracksuit bottoms, he would only wear jeans or tighter fitting trousers if he had too. He stopped having his laptop on his lap as the heat etc doesn't help sperm development. Changed our diets to more fruit and veg also and cut out takeaways etc.
He never went for another sperm count as we got our miracle and we agreed that by time she was 3 we would actively try again using OPKs etc but when she was about a year and a half we decided to not try but also not prevent a pregnancy from happening.

It can happen huni. Stay positive . If you ever want a chat just send me a Pm x

Hi hun

My OH's SA qualified us for ICSI (IVF) on the NHS. He started taking Wellman Conception & Healthspan's PregnaPure for men (alternating to get a mixture of trace elements) and 2 years later his numbers had gone through the roof on all 3 scales (count, motility and morphology) -he started off at 0 and 1% morphology in the tests and it steadily increased to 8% normal at the last sample (3% and above is fine). His other scores were always fine but they went up a lot too.

The other thing he did was to get more healthy and these days does a lot of exercise.

We still went with IVF and have a baby on the way from that (altho it took 3 times) so things can turn around xx

I forgot to mention, trace ingredients that are apparently good for men's sperm include:
- zinc
- maca
- L arginine
- pine bark

Don't know if I've spelt these all right! X

update....2nd SA results back today no change so are now being referred to clinic. the doctor did say however we wouldn't get nhs funding for ivf as im too young (26.5) :(

That's ridiculous, what age do they offer it from then? xx

30 apparently, will check when we get to the clinic as it doesn't sound very fair xx

That's not fair at all, I would look on NICE guidelines and on NHS sites and see if it says no treatment at a certain age, if it doesn't dispute it xx

I don't know set-up in UK but I would ring NHS directly and enquire as it makes no sense that they make you wait until you are 30. I'm 42 based in Ireland and when I rang about IUI or IVF privately they indicated that the success was much better for younger women so I would chase them up on it.
