I never know how warm to dress DD. Yesterday was freezing. I put her in a vest, thick romper suit, thick wooly jumper, her furry trousers (with feet) socks and wooly hat. I spent the day worrying that she was cold and thinking I should have put her in her snow suit but when I got her undressed when we got home she was damp with sweat . We were out all day. I know the rule is an extra layer to what I'm wearing but I was in jeans, jumper and ski coat and complaining I was cold while DH was in the same complaining he was warm in the big coat :wall: . I'm always cold though.

The needing an extra layer is for the first month only as a rule. After that maintaining body heat is better. Then they can wear pretty much the layers you wear. I'd have gone for not putting on the romper suit if it were me, even if cold. You can layer and warm up with a blanket also when out don't forget. Also if in and out of shops etc its not constantly cold and is warm while inside.

Don't forget if she is all wrapped up and has her head covered she has no way to lose bodyheat. Bodyheat is lost via the head and of course if out and cold then hat is on.

You can always check how warm baby is by putting a couple of fingers onto her chest inside her vest and see how she is feeling. I am often surprised by how warm Galen is even if its freezing outside and he has a vest, top, trousers and jacket only on. His hats vary so I can put on thicker or thinner ones depending on the temp.

same as sherlock, i wouldnt of used the romper suit, as im guessing you use blankets or a footmuff when out?
Thomas will generaly wear (indoors) socks, vest, long sleeve t-shirt, jeans, thin jumper, bib
is going out same as above but with a hat, mittens, thick coat (its fleece lined) i sometimes add a blanket doubled up inside his footmuff if its really cold as i can easily take that off
xx

All the advice on SIDS has made me more scared of Molly being too warm than too cold so I tend not to put too much on her.

If we're indoors, she'll have a vest, trousers and top on (with a cardi if it's a short sleeved top) or a vest and babygro at night. Outdoors we either just put her in her snowsuit on top of whatever she is wearing or a coat, hat and blanket. She is always toasty warm when we undress her after being out.

In this kind of weather I tend to put the kids in

For outdoors :

vests, then jumper and thickish trousers, and then a winter coat with hats scarves and gloves.
For a very young baby I would use a pram blanket too.

for indoors :

vests, trousers, long sleeved top. Cardigan over if it's particularly cold.

for night :

vest with pyjamas or vest with sleepsuit
and a duvet (with an extra 1 or 2 blankets if necessary) - but they kick them off anyway!
bed socks if it's footless pjs

I'm always cold too, but Tally is a very warm baby, earlier i was sat in a jumper and her in short sleeves and she's all warm lol.

I tend to just put a long sleeve top, vest, and jumper on her, with trousers and sock, if we go out i replace the jumper with a thick woolly one i bought her for christmas and put a blanket over her legs.

I do wrap her up at night though, vest, sleepsuit, jumper, sleeping bag, fleece blanket (folded twice), and up to three more cotton blankets, she's never anything but nice and warm when she gets up, not hot.

She may well let you know if she's too hot, we get one grumpy little girl if she's hot,

Cripes even though our bedroom goes down to around 15-16C atm our LO only has a long sleeved body suit, a sleeptsuit and a 2.5-3 tog sleeping bag and is toasty. When its around 18C he then has a short sleeved bodysuit in place of the long sleeved.

yeah i know!!! i feel silly putting it all on her but she was waking up loads before and feeling cold, i guess she must lose lots of heat when she's asleep, as long as she's happy lol

Awww bless :) So long as she is happy :) I was amazed as if I did that with Galen he'd be boiling. Its amazing how different they are. Its only recently I've put long sleeved body suits on in place of short sleeved as his arms were feeling a bit cold. But other than that he seems fine and is happy. He certainly doesn't feel cold when I check him thats for sure. Mind you we did get a 2.5 -3 tog sleeping bag this time and I think that has made a difference for him. He also has 2.5 tog ones for when its not quite so cold.

Lil miss is put to bed in a short sleeved vest, a long sleeved body suit, and a fleecy one (she near kills herself in sleeping bags  and always kicks the covers off)...Her room is always about 18º in the winter. Shes quite a hot baby, sweats a lot if shes too warm...but she's fine in all that.. When we go out and its cold, she has a vest, long sleeved top, pair of trousers, baby legs and socks on ... plus her little fluffy coats and a double folded cellular blanket (yer found a use for them finally.. ) over her legs.

She refuses to keep hats on and with that much clothing she can have her hat/hood off and not get cold. :D

Ivy is usually in a vest baby grow and a long one if not a long one then long top and trousers with socks indoors. At night she just sleeps in a vest. She sleeps with us so is always snuggled up right next too me and I keep her toasty!!!! When we go out I put her in her snowsuit and then a blanket over her with a hat. If it is really cold I just add another thin layer. She gets very uncomfy if shes too padded! I think she would rather be comfy and slightly cool than uncomfy and hot.

The one thing I always do is make sure her puddys and tootsies are always covered if we are out and its cold I think thats the worst things to have cold! I hate to see babes wraped up all over with their little feet hanging out in the cold!

So were you using the wooly jumper and furry trousers instead of a coat?? If thats the case I would put the same amount on Lola! Sometimes I dont get her "dressed" and she will have her vest, babygrow and cardigan, then when I got out I put on her snowsuit and hat! If really cold then a blanket also!
So basically the same thing!
For bed Lola wears a vest, babygrow a fleece blanket doubled and a cellular blanket doubled! Shes happy with that! My room usually goes down to 15C in the night!

feet we can cover but she screams if i cover her hands!!! i hate them being cold but she'd rather have cold hands and be able to play still then have them covered, hats are also an issue, they have to be the tie on ones or she pulls them off

Yes, jumper instead of coat. She gets hot quickly as we were in and out of shops so wanted something I could take off easily. She complains until we take off the jumper and furry trousers when we stop to feed her so I spend half of a shopping trip dressing/undressing a baby  . She won't sit in her pram which has the cosytoes for more than 5 minutes in a shop and screams until we get her out and carry her  . If we were going for a walk along the seafront (bit too cold for that at the moment) I would have put her in the snowsuit. It's just that I was freezing in my ski coat and worried she would be cold but then again I'm always cold, only happy in the summer  . I was looking at all the other babies and they were all wrapped up in snowsuits and covered in blankets sitting there nicely while my little madam was screeching to be released from the confines of her pram and I thought she might be cold but she felt warm, she was fine as soon as she was carried.
At night she's in vest, thin pjs (or footless sleepsuit) and 1 tog sleeping bag and her room is between 17-18. She seems quite comfy at that temp even though her hands are cold but they always are regardless of air temp.

Forgot to say, she hates her snowsuit. Just wriggles in it all the time and generally whinges whilst in it.

 Aww she sounds like a little Diva already heehee

Isla likes in the day, her vest and babygrow, the same at night but I put a double folded sheet and double folded cellular blanket on.
When I take her out she has vest, babygrow (or top, trousers and socks), a coat and hat, a double folded cellular blanket and her fleecy blanket. any more and she bakes!
