Hubby should get his sperm results today and I am really nervous about it. We are going away with friends till mon so if we don't find out this morning I won't be able to update u all till mon :(. Fx there was enough & it isn't bad news. Xx

Oh forgot to ask, how will the results be read to him? Will they give figure or just say low, normal etc? If it's a figure what should it be?

Hi Tinks,

Good Luck Hun! :)

It will read million per mil, usually it will be from 40,000000 per ml to 90,000000 per ml some men can have as low as 1,000000 per ml, this would be seen as a low result but obviously it only takes one!

Other things they look at are volume, how much semen is produced and viscosity, how thick the sample is.

They also look at motility (how fast/ how many sperm are actively swimming around) and this will be given as a percentage of whatever million per mil the sample is and then in the same way they look at morphology (how many immobile/dead sperm there are) then out of the immobile/dead percentage they look at how many of those are abnormal, this is usually above 75% so don't let a high percentage scare you.

Ask for a print out when you go too.

xx

It only takes one Maybe?!

Someone must have just come back off holiday or something... ;)

Tinks, try not to worry about it. Definitely ask for a printout like what Maybe suggested.

The results are just a general indication. You need to have a couple of sets of results to know where you stand really.

Don't focus on any one factor like count or motility - it's about how all these factors come together.

Give me male factor over female factor any day :)

I am sure it is going to be fine hunny, as Lou said you only need one!!

Our doc kept it simple for us just said that our sperm was great no problems and he told us how many million there were and what percentage was good quality!!

good luck xx

Good luck Tinks!

My DH has low amount of sperm cells in his sperm (4 million, should be at least 20 milllion I think), but we still managed to get pregnant in the end, so as Maybe says, it only takes one;)

It doesn't only take one unfortunately :( The lowest volume they say can create a pregnancy is between 15 and 20 million. It doesn't only take 1 as millions of others have to get thru all the barriers such as cervical mucus, going to right way in the first place and fertilizing the egg... Good luck!

Correct me if I'm wrong ladies but I'm sure Esperanza 84's hubby had 1 million per ml and she's in Tri 2.

I know that 1 sperm isn't all that's needed I was just trying to make Tinks feel better if it was on the lower side of the scale, knowing Esperanza's story. :)

Edit just seen Esperanza's post above 4 million sorry!

xx

Hi everyone,

sorry for late reply, been away for the weekend. We got the results Friday afternoon as they weren't back in the morning. They said hubbys sperm is normal. I will have to wait till I go to docs next to get more info but normal is good enough for me :) thanks for all your kind msg's xx

Thanks maybe, I was pleased as it kinda takes the pressure off a bit. Xx

Well for the record, my Oh has a low sperm count of less than 5mil and 20%mobility and our fertility specialist told us and I quote "it only takes one"

So I believe this statement.

Fab news about your hubby's results :) xx
