Okay this is going to sound really lame but I have my antenatal class next week, (it's a one-off full day session rather than individual classes) but I'm feeling quite anxious about going. OH is coming with me, he's really keen to go as he's feeling a bit clueless about the whole labour process bless him, I think I'm just worried though that the whole talk of labour/pain relief is going to send me into a panic. It's daft I know, I mean I can't wait to have this baby, but I'm quite a sqeamish person. I've been reading up a bit more on labour in my books so I'm not completely clueless, does anyone else feel like this or am I just being a wimp? :oooo: x x

You will be fine hunny, they give you alot of info to take in but some of the info will be very useful to you and may help you make certain choices or may even change your mind about things you have chosen already.
I wasnt going to go this time as i went when pregnant with Adam but things change so ive changed my mind and mine is this wednesday afternoon and next wednesday afternoon x x

thanks hon - I know it's important to go as there's somethings that you can't really learn from books/internet. Just need to try and chill out I think! Good luck with yours let me know how you get on x x

You'll be fine hun! It's understandable to feel like that though, I had my waterbirth workshop last night and I was so nervous before going that I was going to come out traumatised! I hadn't really thought about labour in any great detail, so I was scared that I'd freak out!

It was fine though, I even managed to watch a video of a baby coming out of a woman's privates! That has reinforced the fact that OH will not under any circumstances be looking down there! And when they offer me a mirror to have a look, I will politely decline!

Hope the class goes okay! I wish I could have got onto the classes, but the ones near me were full...

xx

Ahh thankyou that has made me feel so much better to know I'm not the only nervous one! I definately don't want OH down that end either lol! x x

Aww you'll be soo fine! I was nervous before mine - more about the other people there being nice, which they were phew!
Have you looked at hypno for birth? It's really helped me :) It makes you soo much more confident that your body can do this and also reduce fear to the extent it's a background noise. Did you know that if someone was in a coma, their body would still be able to birth the baby? All the fear is in the mind, which then creates adrenaline, which overrides the oxytocin and makes labour a nightmare when it needn't be. Want me to PM you?

totally agree with sunnygirl, if your nervous or scared about labour try reading up on the hypnobirthing stuff its really interesting or borrowing a cd, it has helped me sooooo much that I'm actually excited and looking fwd to going into labour now which is a miracle in itself!!!!

Hi Bella.......just want to second the comments about natal hypnotherapy......the theory of it really makes sense to me and is helping me to feel calmer!
I was v nervous before our first nct class 2 weeks ago but u soon learn that the other girls are just as scared and have the same fears as you.......it's reassuring more than anything and I agree with M2A that what you learn may make you change your mind about things you thought you'd already decided.
You definately aren't alone in the nerves department but you will prob get a lot out of it and feel more 'in the know' and confident about the up coming big day! Hope it goes well hun xxx

Best of luck let us know how it goes. I feel the same as you mine start next tue evening I have got 3 to go to and the last one is just days before my due date. im scared too, I think its really gonna panic me but looking forward to seeing the ward etc xx

thank you girls, definately going to look into the hypnobirthing thing (thanks for the pm sunny). Lucyann - hope yours all goes well next week x x

thanks Bella, we will have to swap notes! :) xx

Aw I'm sure you will be fine! Antenatal classes usually tend to be very supportive, I doubt they will make you nervous, more likely the opposite! My 'teacher' makes it all sound so easy :)
