This might seem trivial but it bothers me so thought I would see what other mums do!

When your lo wakes in the night for a feed or first thing in the morning do you change their nappy before feeding? My little boy is 8 weeks old and just starting to sleep for bigger stretches at night (yay!), when he wakes for a feed I change his nappy first but he gets so upset if he's hungry so it's a bit traumatic. The trouble is he falls asleep after his feed so I then don't want to disturb him by changing him (even in the morning he goes back down for an hour or so usually). I also have to keep him upright for 20 mins after a feed as otherwise he is likely to bring it back up so I can't change him as soon as he's fed and after the 20 mins he's asleep. I just feel like a mean mummy making him wait when he's hungry but I don't like him being in a wet nappy that he's had on for 5/7/9 hours and I don't want to wake him by changing him. What do you do? xx

I used to change virtually every time when he was little as he hated a wet nappy but as he got bigger he didn't mind them as much so unless it's huge I wait till morning now,but i always change before a feed as changing his nappy wakes him up. He doesn't always like it but we have it down to a fine art now and done really quickly.

At that age I think I was changing nappy still but I soon stopped as it woke her up more and made her mad! When no2 arrives I don't think I'll be changing unless it is dirty rather than just wet.

DD slept through from about 10 months so is in the same nappy from 6pm til 6am sometimes 7am if I'm really lucky! The pampers baby dry are designed for 12 hour protection and I very rarely get a leak. Just make sure you use a good barrier cream on his bum and maybe build up the time you leave it on if it makes you feel more confident. Xx

My little one has to wait for the morning bottle to be warmed anyway, so in that time, I change his nappy. Sometimes you just have to do thinks they don't like because it's for the best.

When he gets ratty coz he's hungry, I sing, we have soft musical toys he can play with, anything to distract him for a minute.

I change before every feed, he cries the whole way through but it's better than him sitting in it. We don't use nappy or barrier cream but have never had nappy rash, I put this down to frequent changes even when there's wee. Right now I'll take a grumpy newborn over a stroppy toddler that tries to make a dash for it any day

I change beforehand too, as it wakes him up a bit. We also don't use any creams etc and he's not had any nappy rash. It can only take a few mins to change it ( unless it's poo-maggedon!!) so don't feel bad about making him wait xx

We change before a feed, if she is getting upset I tend to sing a song while changing her, and that distracts her for the couple of minutes it takes x

I change before a feed. My LO has been sleeping through since eight weeks. He'll sleep from about 7pm until 5am, so I'm happy to change him then. When he was waking up actually in the night, I didn't always change him unless he was dirty or his nappy was really wet. There's no right or wrong, just what ever works for you and baby.

Tbh I only change it if its heavy or a dirty nappy. The midwife said to me only change him if you really need to at night and no talking and lights off if possible so baby starts to tell when nighttime and daytime is....id only change if there is loads of pee or done a poo!

Lo only wakes once in the night so I do change her while her bottle is cooling down

Thanks ladies. I thought I was doing the right thing but it's good to be reassured that others do the same! I hate seeing him cry but I guess that's what mums have to do! When he moves into size 3 nappies I'll buy the pampers baby dry so I'll feel more confident leaving him in it overnight (unless he's pooed). I've tried size 3 on him but they leak at the legs so he's obviously not big enough just yet. I'm sure it won't be long as he's 9 weeks tomorrow xx

I must be the only one that changes the nappy halfway through a feed. At first I was changing beforehand but after our neighbour knocking on because she thought something was wrong, because he was crying so loud, I stopped doing that lol. Works for us. We don't use creams either, he has no problems xx

Lulu, I also change during feeding. Helps if I'm dream feeding especially as I find it doesn't wake her up as much if I do. Xxx

I used to change halfway through with DS1 as he pooed during every feed! I love how different all our babies are :)

Lulu I change halfway through as well, means she's not quite as Hungry so she doesn't scream and if she falls asleep i can then just put her in her crib x

I would do it during feeding if he didn't have to be upright for 20 mins and fall asleep in the process. I'm surprised our neighbours haven't knocked on Lulu lol! They're certainly little characters aren't they :) xx
