Does anyone else's little ones scream the house down at nappy change time?? Our baby girl absolutely hates it, kicks and wriggles making it harder...oh and always does a wee when we are changing her too when nappy is off. Anyone else experiencing this too ? I hate it when she cries as she really gets worked up. I've tried a soother on a couple of occasions but even spits that out. If anyone has any pointers to make this better??

Bigbee suggested a cloth over them and I find that works. They hate being naked when their little. Lily's got better as sges got used to it. And the weeing is because of the air I think. That happens a lot here too. Xxx

I'm pretty sure it's an age thing, my lo used to scream but now (8wks) loves having her bum out. If you use wipes I recommend putting the packet onto a radiator and trying to keep them warm. For my lo it helped to lie something like a muslin or vest over her tummy/chest

It's her age. That young all babies scream at bum change time, but as she gets used to it she'll settle. My son is almost 8 weeks and he's fine now.

With the weeing during a change, I don't know if it's the same with girls, but with my boys I always put a wipe over they're willy while changing them. Literally take nappy off with one hand and put wipe on with the other. After over two years of changing nappies I am now a nappy changing ninja and can do it super quick!

wait untill they get to 16 months and your wrestling a full blown metldown. Im looking forward to newborn nappy changes.

Sometimes my hubby has to pin him down for me. Hes in nursery full time so i only have the battle when hubby is around ( before and after work, weekends )

when i go onto mat leave in august and hes out of most of nursery sessions i dont really know how im going to cope haha

Thanks ladies, I'm going to try some of the suggestions on her next change, see if it makes any difference. Being a tired new mummy is tough especially when she gets herself in this state every time. Fingers crossed xx

We're the same in this house. Although sometimes its not too bad, the main issue here is the wet wipes and have found that as soon as we dry him with some cotton wool all is well with the world :)

It may not be helpful but its nice to know others are in the same boat :)

x

I've been using water wipes, more for convenience as carrying a newborn around with a bowl of warm water, especially in the early hours seems a challenge. I might try and work something tonight though. I do find once I dry her off with a towel and get her nappy done up she is fine. x

Pismo that's actually very true knowing it's not just me x

Yes Lucy exactly the same, and always have kitchen towel at the ready to mop up the wee she does as soon as nappy is off. She cries like its the worst thing ever but I don't let it stress me as know within minutes she'll be fine again and give her a cuddle x

Using warm water rather than cold wipes might make a difference. Cover them with a cotton wool pad to catch the start of a wee. And I have a couple of musical toys - I used to set one going to keep him distracted. I even sing sometimes to make it a more happy experience.

I find that changing after a feed works better. He doesn't seem to cry then.

I use cotton wool in the day and wipes in the night. For convenience. He doesn't like wipes, but if I'm quick, it's a more pleasant experience! For both of us!!!

Strange, but my boy hasn't actually weed on me for a very long while. I am becoming complacent now and don't even bother covering him up! I'll eat my words at the next nappy change, I'm sure :)

My little girl is only just now beginning to not go cuckoo at nappy change time. As long as I don't mess around then can get through it unscathed. However don't even start me on changing her clothes. If she suspects the clothes are going higher than a nappy change requires then she goes mental! She hates being naked! Not managed to fully bath her yet! Having to use cotton wool and wash her in sections cos am too chicken to try it!

xx

I agree that changing after a feed seems to help and also developing super fast nappy changing skills makes it easier.

My LO loves bath time! He is very peaceful in the warm water x

Like you Belfa our little one loves a bath, she can be screaming up to the point we put her in and then she's all good! It's lovely.

Oh and she does wee and poo nearly every time we change her :(

Just be super organised, have everything ready so you can strip her off at the last minute and put her in the bath. Both my two love the bath. I love watching my youngests face when he's in it cos if he's worked up before going in, he'll try and keep crying, but you can see him thinking oh this is quite nice actually!

Well I've tried the covering up and changing after a feed and it defo helps. I've managed 2 now without the screaming. Hubby got the full on poo explosion last night though lol...that came with a few screams.

Just need her to start enjoying bath times.

batht imes- try the water at 37.5 :) they reccommend 36-37 but most mums agree it needs to be slightly warmer than body temp fr the babies to enjoy it :) as soon as we upped the temp our son went from screaming to content :)

Bath time getting better too, the tip of warmer water defo helps. Was a bit scared of burning her but she loved it.

We put our little boy in the shower with us and he is much happier than in the bath on his own. He likes being cuddled into us and even doesn't mind the water on his face.

Thanka for the tips- Nappy changes are slowly getting better but still have some which involve screaming until he is dressed again.
