Naming after late grandad

We didnt find out the sex and if its a boy we were umming and arring about jake. both of our grandads have passed away in the last 6 months and im not sure whether to go with one of them for a boy although OH isnt keen on his grandads name (lewis) for a first or middle name.

my grandads name is william, what do you think? would also love to hear your comments

I said use it as a middle name...it's a great name but can also be shortened to other things...kids can be nasty sometimes!

I actually really like the name William and I think Will which it will be shortned to is also nice. I have voted love it but if you don't love it then use it for a middle name as you should love your baby's name.

its not that i dont want to use it because i love it but i feel cheeky naming after him, strange i know. he was very much loved. also i think ppl might think im choosing my grandads name over his grandads name, just dont want to have to keep explaining myself to everyone

There's absolutely nothing "cheeky" about it! If anything, you're honouring your grandad and that's a special thing. Also, it doesn't matter what other people think about it, this is your precious baby and your decision...you and your partner are the only ones who need to like the name

The name William is lovely, as a first name, and because there's also the family connection of fond memories with the name, it makes it that more special, our LO's middle name will be Walter after his Dad's grandad, so I'm all for the middle name idea

I love william as a name. Bill is a great nick-name! Never met a guy called Bill I didn't like. Doesn't suit little kids (when Will or Liam sound cute), but once he's older Bill's great!

I chose use it as a middle name! Although it'd make a nice first name too of course! I love the name Lewis too!
Brody's middle name is Gordon after his late grandad!

I choose use it as a middle name as I don't quite like it when names get shortned to the likes if Willie etc. I think it would be a good way to honour your grandad.

I think it's a great name - one of my favourites. As others have said, it can be shortened to Bill, Billy, Will or Liam which makes it very versatile. And there's no reason why his middle name can't be from his other Great Grandad.

It's a nice name we couldn't have it though with a surname of Mann you just know someone would call him Willy Man
