Well my mum rang just and when I said we were thinking about Riley, she said

"Oh that's just HORRIBLE" and started going on about how it was Irish. I was like "what's wrong with Irish?!" and she said that Irish have a reputation for being drunks  and my OH and her OH go to an Irish pub called Riley's to play poker. WTF that has to do with it I don't know but she's really upset me. :(
Why can't people keep their mouths shut? I feel like it's taken ages to get this far and she just came along and p*ssed all over a name we like. :wall:

:(

oh hun thats harsh
i think Riley is a loverly name and goes well with Mason And Brody
its urs and ur OH desicion not ur mums

I really like Riley, it goes lovely... Mason, Brody and Riley.

If you like it go for it! He's your baby not your Mum's, she will come round to it eventually.

what does she suggest then? sorry she upset you, was a horrible thing to say

Oh Urchin I am sorry your mom reacted like that - its all you need! :x

I think it sounds great with Mason and Brody and can imagine calling it him already! Feels right :D

Plus if you are anything like me - the fact my mom upset me re the name would make me all the more inclined to use that name just to get my own back on her upsetting me!

my dad asked us to call leland James Leland cos he hated it so much !

What annoys me is she doesn't realise if we DO go for that name, I will always remember that she hates it, and it will spoil it a bit for us. :(
My nan said she didn't like "Brody" "because it sounds too much like embroidery" (WTF?) and I will always remember that too.

I think one of the reasons Riley sounds so good with the other two names (which it does :cheer: ) is because they're all 5 letters and 2 syllables long... :rotfl:

What a horrible thing to say! I hate when people make derogatory comments like that (me being Irish and proud of it). For what it's worth, I think Riley is a super name - it was one of 2 names we had decided on if we had had a boy (Finlay being the other one).

How upsetting for you people annoy me with their comments like that fair enough if its asked for an still a name on a list and not something your seriously considering to the point of trying on for size then its just mean and uncalled for! When my sister first told me the name she liked for my nephew I really wasn't keen but I didn't say that to her I knew it was a name she loved and that was what was important but now hes here and am used to it the name suits him so well and I love it!!!!

The only one name I can actually think of that I like at the moment and the only times ive mentioned it one person said it sounds too religious and the other that it reminded them of a two legged dog and now I think im going off it I asked their opinion and they were honest but not mean but even those comments kind of bugged me probably cause wasnt what I wanted to hear! (the name was Faith by the way)

That's awful.. I remember the comments people made about Ryan's name too (apparently Ryan is welsh and why would I pick a welsh name? and isn't it odd to have 2 middle names, and aren't they really long middle names etc etc).

Maybe something will just hit you and you'll think that's the name for us.

Here's hoping. I'd suggest more but I doubt that would help.. I always just assumed you would call him Jenson... lol

i LOVE the name Riley and going to suggest is to OH as a name. Sorry hun but stuff what ANYONE else thinks, its YOUR and your OH's baby, not your mums, go with what you both like!! :)

My Mom hated Clark too and it still grates on me that she was so nasty about it! I even found out she had been bitching to her friends about it when one of them said, "ooh your mom wasn't too pleased with the name was she!" ! Cheeky cow-bag, who does she think she is!
I have to say, i'm with Beany on this one and the more she hated it the more inclined I was to stick with it! Especially when I still have to watch her squirming when any one she considers slightly posh asks her his name and she goes red and says "Clark, as in Clark Gable" to which I reply as loud as I can "No Mom, as in Superman!" :rotfl: :moon:

random :rotfl:

Riley's a brilliant name, what's wrong with being Irish  Yes, we might like a pint, but think how many good poets etc have come out of ireland...tell your mum that!

 my mum didn't like willow at first...she loves it now though. She hated Tobias/Toby, though, which is what Willow was going to be if she was a boy..

has this poor nameless bundle of joy got a name yet?

my brother is called Kasey but my nan didn't like it so she called him Jack! She only stopped when he got old enough to say "Nanny, my name is Kasey...!" :rotfl:

Drove my mum mental though :wall:

Hope LO has a name soon! x
