So Maia will be 6 months old on Tuesday 25th November.

Im going to start a couple of days early on Sunday because we go away for a few days on Wednesday and I wanted to try her with vegetables first and then I thought I could take some bananas with us and she could have those while we are away as I wont have access to any cooking facilities.

I think I will start with some steamed carrot batons for 3 days then move onto banana for 3 days and then start to introduce other veg and food stuff over the course of the month so she has a good variety of tastes and textures. Do you think 3 days is too long between each different food?

I have a tommee tippee cup that she has been messing with for a while now so she is used to it and im going to try and encourage her to drink water from this.

I have bought a huge bib with arms attached its like a backless t-shirt :) and I also have a plastic sheet for the floor (came free with Mother & Baby) although I dont think I will need it until we move onto things like spaghetti bolognaise, even then not sure if I will use it cause we have a slate floor which wipes easily. A dog would be handy around this time Im guessing

Im hoping Maia will be able to eat Christmas dinner with us or am I being unrealistic?

So thats my plan of action anyone got tips, anything I have missed or anything you would do differently?

Many thanks im soooooo excited!!!!

Hmmmm

Personally I don't see there is much need to wait 3 days each time before introducing each new food. The good thing about BLW is that at 6 months is when they can eat other foods, not just fruit and veg. Galen has been fine on new foods so far overall.

Certainly with Galen we were careful the first week or so but we started BLW at 5 1/2 months, but after that we've pretty much gone with the flow and he eats what we eat (within reason as some things he just is not able to atm).

I don't leave 3 days between new foods tbh. I just give him the veggies and fruit and he eats/squishes/throws around what he feels like. Often he doesn't eat masses of something, other times he is like a gannet for it. He has had egg, toast, pasta and tried chicken for the first time today and seemed to like it but could not chew it off quick enough so got cross

I'd start with one veg for a couple of days, then introduce another with it, say carrot then add broccoli. Then offer fruit for the next new thing. And keep going. For example, if Galen has one new fruit one day, I always let him have another fruit he is familiar with also. Same with veg. He now has up to 4 or 5 different veggies in one meal, but only one of them is a 'new' one in any given meal.

Also roasted veggies have lots of flavour and often can be more appealing than steamed veg. I roast veggies for Galen in advance and we take them so he can eat them when out also.

I also try to keep more to veggies for the main meal and fruit is a pudding rather than the main meal now. Galen would eat banana all the time if we let him so he only gets it once or twice a week to make sure he eats other foods also from an early age.

I'd invest in more than one coverall bib. We have about 6 and one plastic one for back up. We don't have a plastic mat as we have an Eric

Thanks Sherlock, I did think 3 days was a bit too long but thats what the HV recommended. I will maybe take it steady for the first week then relax on the time between foods.

I will be investing in more bibs this week but I thought they were a bit expensive at £2.50 for one from Sainsburys. So I need to shop about and find a few cheaper ones.
