My name or his?

Hi, I dont really know what I'm supposed to do regarding Maddison's surname. I will be eventually returning to my maiden name and would like Maddison to have the same name as me but is this unfair to her Dad as he is still in her life? She is living with me full-time but he sees her every week. To all those who have kids and have had their marriage break up, what have you done regarding your kids name?

I would change her name to mine. But if I wasnt married I would give her my name too although most people I know give thier babies their dads name.

You should do whatever you feel is right hun, and don't let him or anyone else push you into a decision

aww I didn't know you had split up from Maddisons Dad but I think she should have your name

Really difficult situation - my sister has broken from her daughters dad and she has his surname and she hates it.

I know that if i split from my OH i would want her to have my surname, i cant wait to get married so i have the same surname as Amber doesnt feel right

As far as I know changing your Daughters surname from his to yours is going to be alot harder than if you were to change it from yours to his, you will need his permission for starters. Don't forget he is her Dad and does have as many rights as you now days.

Thanks for the replies girls. Hubby has given permission for me to change Maddisons name to mine so will be doing this when I change mine at some point
