Gabriella was weighed today. As she's 9.63lbs, he said I should offer her formula rather than relying on the boob.

I suppose I knew it was coming as she is small, but I'm disappointed too.

Her health is most important though. Just not ideal timing as going on a really long trip and no idea how to sterilise on the go!

not sure what to advise re: switching to formula but our LO is on formula and when we're out we take extra bottles pre sterilised in sandwich bags with us, we then take small 70ml bottles of ready mixed milk (cow and gate starter kit) and generally find that works for us...we use a microwave steriliser at home that does 3 bottles each time...

Do they measure the same out there hun? IE do they use centiles?

She is quite weeny, what was her birth weight?

You can sterilise on the go, ebay / amazon should have the necessary stuff, but is it what you want to do?

I can't see your sig so not sure how old your little one is but my baby weighed that at about 10 weeks putting him in the bottom 1 percentile so I'm guessing she is in the very smallest group. My health visitor said that everything was alright as long as baby's weight tracked the line in the red books they give you.

Hope your trip goes well, but sorry to hear that you've had this recommendation - you've got lots of weeks of breastfeeding in though so she has got a lot of the benefits already xx

Has she actually lost weight? Is she peeing/pooing ok? If it was me and she seemed ok in herself/was going through nappies alright, I would carry on with boob and she how she gets on...weight is not the be all and end all when it comes to health and unfortunately health visitors don't always give the best advice.

This goes into what I've summarised a bit more http://drjaygordon.com/newborns/scales.html
