Well it was a little bit of a nightmare, but not too bad - only really because there didn't seem to be a lot of structure, so there was a lot of waiting around. I saw 7 different people in 2 and a half hours. They were...

Support worker for weight
Support worker for blood pressure
Nurse specialist who gave me a blood sugar monitor to check every morning before breakfast and explain a few bits
Dietician
Consultant who explained why I'm being monitored - gotta see him again in 4 weeks
Phlebotomist to take my blood
Senior Registrar who booked me in for a growth scan next week

I did find out that I've only put on 3lb 13oz since I last got weighed at 12+5 which is good as I've been trying to eat well for the past 8 weeks.

So yes, growth scan next week and I'll have to resist looking for any baby bits lol - I couldn't find out at my anomaly scan as baby was hiding twice and now OH had decided he'd rather wait :D

Anyhoo, just wanted to share :)

You could always take a peep and not tell OH hehe!

My first diabetic appointment was a bit hectic like yours, but after that one they are pretty easy. I look forward to the growth scan every month but i hate the consultant appointments as they are sooo boring... luckily they don't last long lol

In mine they just take a look at your monitoring book, check blood pressure and pee sample and then have a poke of your belly and check babies heartbeat. x

Haha, I'd never be able to hold it in if I knew baby's sex!!! I've got a week to talk him into it though :D

Luckily my consultant seemed really nice, and didn't seem like someone who likes to hang around to chat - so hopefully seeing him will be nice and quick!

hi,ive got gestational diabetes and am currently 30 weeks,at the moment its just diet controlled and i have to check my sugars 4 times a day,how high were your gtt results?

My results weren't too bad - 8.4. Mine is just diet controlled at the moment too :)

mine peeked at 8.7 and to start with was diet controlled... but now i have to take a tablet once a day as my dinner time readings are always a little high! Only the dinner time one... odd!

my gtt results were 4.9 to start then 8.5 after 2 hours, weirdly enough my dinner time ones are also my highest readings, ive had a couple that have been out of range but it was because id had white rice or white bread,im trying really hard to keep them under control

2 and a half hours?? I am so glad I don't have to go through times like that. I think the longest I've been at clinic is about an hour. So far I've been four times....everyweek since I was 6 weeks and they got their acts together and realized I needed to go.

I go in one room and have my urine tested, my weight done and my HBA1C taken and Blood pressure. I then go off and see whoever I need to see, this could be the diabetic nurse, the OB consultant, the diabetic consultant or the dietician. They are taking care of my bloods post 13 and half week scan and they set the scan date so I could go straight to them for the bloods etc afterwards.

I wonder if I will need growth scans later on? I guess I will.

Hi girls I am in hospital at the mo I had a blood transfusion earlier today for a very low blood count. I have high bp and found out around an hour ago I have GD (I had my gtt this morning)
My heads spinning with it all at the moment but just thought I would say hi
I've had a brief chat with the doctor who said I will have to monitor my bloods 7 times a day that seems alot!

Bloody hell, hope you're doing ok in yourself!!!

Goodness that is a lot - I only have to test once per day!

That may just be while you're in hospital that you have to test so many times, my daughter has to test before and after every meal and before bed when she's in hospital, I expect you'll be the same. I have to do four tests a day, at least one after a meal and one on waking up/before breakfast, and I think this is more the norm for when you're at home.

Hope you get better soon and are back on your feet x

Thanks girls I'm sure I have just homed in on the negatives of the conversation it been a rough few days. I am sure I will know more tomorrow. This little Madame is a right trouble maker lol x

Doctors don't always realize what a shock it is. When my daughter was diagnosed type 1 (she was still in primary school at the time), was told at about 12.30 in the middle of the night, my poor OH was with me until 2.30 as she was sobbing her heart out and so frightened. She had the most horrific needle phobia and I had to tell her the only way to treat her type 1 was injections everyday and that she'd have to do the finger prick test (which had scared her senseless earlier in the day). Luckily she is fine now (injects and tests no problems at least), but it's the wonder the doctor is, My OH and I wanted to hunt him down!

Haha I bet you did!
It is very over whelming It made my head spin it's all the testing and weekly clinics that threw me because I also will have extra clinics for high bp and to get iron infusions I'm hoping this can all be done at once. X

Hopefully, if your hospital is like mine, they will lay off on your Diabetic clinic appointments once they have your sugars under some control....I was given a three week reprieve this morning, after having weekly appointments so far. The next time I'll see that damn hospital no will be for my scan and my bloods to be done :D

When I was pregnant I had to do a fasting one, one before and one 2 hours after each meal... So that's seven. You just get so used to doing it though lol I too hated injections giving blood etc, but I was fine with all this :) hope you're ok today girlies :D xx

My grr results were 15.4 two hours post glucose drink :/ x
