Following on from the "What have you wasted your money on" thread...

What gifts have people given you that you didn't want to start with or have never had any use of?

I don't have much but I was so annoyed when I was given some Colic Drops I never even opened them, but i just thought that IF she had colic, that I would like to choose how to treat it.

a load of clothes too big for him and a load that are newborn. I said we had tonnes but they still bought it.

SIL also bought a pram toy thing as she asked me what I wanted for him and I said a pooh bear one and she bought another one which is wank

In laws wanted to get him some small stocking presents.. so we said little cars (he loves cars) soooo they got a winnie the pooh phone that is repeatative and annnoying as hell and he chewed the paint off it  . so its now been put away. oh and realllllllllllly girly looking knitted stuff.

awww I like my girls to look like girls when they are babies... not necessarily in pink... but pretty.

I don't like anything with names on. I think it's dangerous to have clothing with the kids name on because kids are less likely to think you are a stranger if you know their names. My mum got a t shirt with Tia's name on and it lives in the cockroach cupboard with anything else that is in bad taste... Tia has started adding more and more to this as shes getting her own sense of style.

The bloody moses basket. It clutters my living room and its hardly used...unless you count the cats

Oh and this babygro some friend brought (don't have kids obv.) where there are these silly poppers that pop open if the baby even sneezes AND they are on the BACK!!! Yes very useful.

Woolly cardigans, hats, mittens and a fleesy coat in 3 - 6 - 9 month size....er... we live in SPAIN... if I put my child in that in August... She'll die!!!   very clever.

I confess I have exchanged quite a lot of slightly useless clothes for the same reason as Squiglet, they are either winter clothes in 6 month sizes or summer ones in 9 month sizes!

I reckon you can really tell the people who havent got kids by what they buy yours too, and how much thought they have given to what time of year it will be when these things fit!!

Feel a bit ungrateful though for returning things...

Mostly clothes as some people have really bad taste. Luckily they nearly always leave the receipt in the bag :shhh:

newborn babygros without feet! very cute but WTF?? it's winter!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: We got loads of those too, and do you think he would keep socks on?? Would he hell!

My nan, bless her bought boys and girls clothes while I was pregnant because baby was team green. Once he was born we took all the girls stuff and gave it to people we knew who had or were expecting girls. Well, my nan still occasionally buys girls stuff  Jake got a lovely girls coat for Xmas lol She buys a lot of her presents from charity shops (which I dont have a problem with, its the thought that counts and she doesnt have much money) but I cant take it back to the shop to get a more suitable gift. She also bought a ballet shoe picture frame (and it was truly awful :puke: ) so we gave it to a little girl MIL knows and apparently she absolutely LOVES it :D

my sister bought me a hideous baby keep sake box, full of little boxes with nothing in them  i guess you're supposed to fill them yourself- and a glass jar saying 'baby's first breath'

anyway pretty pointless - especially as my sister has 2 children of her own so you would have thought she would have given me something useful

people i barely know have given me more generous and useful gifts!

Clothes which are too small. :wall:

No more clothes for us! :talkhand: And useless toys! Please, no useless toys! :talkhand: Mostly from people who dont have children or from older generation

I'm grateful for everything that we got for Harrison really but it does annoy me that on the odd occasion my Inlaws get Harrison something, it's always what we don't need, I don't see why they can't ask what he needs so he would get more use out of it, everyone else does

When Lydia was born one of my friends bought her a pair of pyjamas aged 18-24 months that said on them 'My First Christmas'

I have no idea why they even MAKE these, let alone why anybody would buy them.

She did wear them anyway, after all it's just pyjamas, but she'd obviously already seen 2 Christmases at this point.

Horrible fluffy clothes which say "Cute baby" "Princess" "Spoilt rotten". Self fulfilling prophecy anyone? I hate slogan clothes, except this t-shirt willow has which has the hammer and sickle on it with "I Must Break You" underneath

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Oh Xena!!!! That had me in stitches!! 18-24 mth my first christmas!!! How ridiculous!!!!

:rotfl: :rotfl:

Definitely clothing - I took most of it back. One of my mum's friend had the cheek to give a dress which was dated back to 2002 stock, foud out when I went to the shop to return it and it said on the system when they scanned it

Was also given some milk bottles.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: My mum did that when I had Tia... She brought a suit that said "baby's first Christmas 1999" for 12-18 months... it was very nice but Tia was 4months old for her first xmas so it was too big...and she was too big for it by the next xmas...apparently she'd grow into these winter clothes... yes in August :wall: :wall: I still put tia in it on xmas day, just I rolled the sleeves up and put socks on her feet to keep the leggings up... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: she was totally drowned in it though.

i got one of thos keepsake boxes with loads of empty boxes inside! :?

most useless is all the clothes.
when i was in hospital the same day as i had her, a family member gave me a cardigan for 9-12 months???? she was only a couple of hours old! :|

other useless things -

babygro's with buttons up the back..... WTF how the hell are you meant to get a wriggling baby in one of those?

a pair of pink trainers - 6-9 months

a water float (like a rubber ring) for 18 months + !!!!!!

clothes clothes clothes clothes and more clothes

ill think of more later

but the best thing and most useful thing ever given was a sleeping bag from mrs_tommo22!!!

Kim - I LOVE all the things people have given me for when DD is a bit older - the rubber float and cardie sound like great gifts to me - mind you, I have stacks and stacks of bin bags full of sorted clothes I've been given/hand-me-downs/sales/charity shops up until 3+ years old! Nothing like being organised!
