Moses Basket Mattress Cover

We were given a moses basket from my cousin & his wife. I know thats it recommended to get a new mattress for new a baby but when I went to get one I ended up seeing a moses basket & I loved which came with a mattress so I bought it

But the mattress on the in new basket is horrid plastic feeling I checked the mattress my cousin gave me & its got a removable mattress cover. My question is could I wash the mattress cover at a hot wash & use it for my baby or am I best getting a new mattress cover?

I'd say the cover would be fine. Ours was a plastic covered one also and we put a sheet and a fitted flannel sheet over it to make it a bit cosier.

Thanks for your reply I considering doing what you have done if I didn't reuse the cover, it feels so uncomfy. I'll wash it anyway either at a 60 or 90 degree.

We used a friend's moses basket and mattress. The mattress had a removable cover that we put in the washing machine.
