I've read a lot about people recommending lansinoh for sore nipples when first starting out, and also about people recommending nipple shields. Is it worth me buying them now so have them to hand? Or shall I wait until he's here and see if I need them? My problem is I don't drive and where i live is tiny so it'd be an hour on the bus to try and get hold of them if I did need them xx

Nipple shields are not recommended by lactation consultants and other BF experts. They come with their own problems similar to using bottles and dummies too early on. I wouldnt get them unless they are recommended by a trained advisor - they are a last resort really.

Lanolin is great. Lansinoh is the well known brand but you can but non branded lanolin from a decent sized chemist. I've recommend having some lanolin in ready. Your nipples might not get sore and if they do get cracked or very sore you should get your latch checked. I think your nipples have to go through a certain amount of 'toughening up' in the early days. I'm anticipating it again even though I have BF quite recently and I have some in ready. :)

Thank you :)

I should just PM you whenever I have a Q, save taking up space in the forums  xx

I had Lansinoh ready this time too just in case - definitely worth having and it's amazing stuff! With Sam I didn't have any and had to send hubby out to get me some

I agree with MervsMum, I would only ever look at nipple shields when there are issues like re-lactation. They were invaluable for me then, but they can simulate the teat of a bottle too much and cause nipple confusion.

I'll just buy some of the cream then, since i'll probably need it and not buy the others :) xx

Ask on here chick then others can give their input and also use your threads for reference ;)

I just feel like I have constant questions, and I haven't even started doing it yet  xx

the more prepared you are the better though :)

I was the same when I was pregnant with Sam, don't worry! And I didn't have a forum to ask all my questions on then

I agree I'd have lanolin in before baby arrives. One of the MW's in hospital recommended it to me as her sister had used it. my mum was on my doorstep waiting with it when we got home and it really did make a difference. Ask all the questions now as I got all my info from MW's and I can't help but feel if I'd had the correct info I'd have managed to feed for longer
